The Shocker's Mix 102
Some of the stuff I work on doesn't make the cut so I thought about gathering them up in a single post. So basically it's images I have little or no info about or I've decided that they don't get their own thread, for example, because of low image/content quality, lack of backstory or additional info/knowledge, possibly uninteresting, only one image but not very special. I still do the usual image work including upscaling and color correction as needed, as I prefer to have my content high quality and educational. - - - Case 1 Fig1.1 Man who skidded with his motorcycle and rolled into a ditch. Fig1.2 The body of a 21-year-old man who was witnessed to skid with his motorcycle and roll into a ditch. Notice the large confluent areas of abrasion commonly referred to as road rash. The patchy, nearly full-thickness abrasions across his torso, right shoulder and back, and face are consistent with the historical circumstances of rolling against the rough asphalt and coming to rest within the dense brush. - - - Case 2 Fig2.1 Man was shot by police officers after a robbery. Allegations of brutality at the hands of police are not infrequent in today’s litigious society. This young man was shot by police officers after a robbery led to a street-side gun battle. After viewing medical examiner identification photographs, family members expressed concern that this individual had not only been shot but beaten as well. Photographic documentation of the injuries, and of the rough ground at the scene, adequately demonstrated that the abrasions resulted because of a terminal collapse onto asphalt, and not police brutality. - - - Case 3 Fig3.1 Pedestrian run over by a train. This pedestrian was transected through the torso when he was run over by a train. Note the large, wide abrasion extending nearly horizontally across his lower chest and the extensive disruption of the abdominal soft tissues. - - - Case 4 Fig4.1 Note the extensive injury of the side of the torso with partial evisceration. Fig4.2 The other fatality had burns and amputation of his hand and forearm. Two young men were killed in a residence when a military-type explosion device detonated. The extent of the explosive nature of the event is evident by buckling and partial separation of the walls of the residence from the roof. At autopsy, note the extensive injury of the side of the torso with partial evisceration, extensive tissue disruption, and also scattered burns (Fig.1). The other fatality had multiple severe injuries, including burns and amputation of his hand and forearm (Fig.2). Wooden dowel rods were placed in the penetrating and perforating wounds to demonstrate the path of the projectiles. Explosions in residences are infrequent but are mainly due to natural gas ignitions. Also, one must consider chemical explosions related to the manufacture of illicit drugs such as methamphetamine, propane tank explosions, and explosions related to industrial equipment. Also possible is an explosion from a primary explosive device. When this is the case, careful collection of embedded shrapnel and investigation of the scene may allow for the identification of the exploding device. - - - Case 5 Fig5.1 Fatal chop wounds on the side of the head from an axe. This individual has fatal chop wounds on the side of the head from an axe. Chop wounds are an intermediary between blunt and sharp force injuries in that they involve both tissue laceration and slicing. Among the most common objects causing chop wounds are axes, machetes, propellers, and machinery blades. The chop wounds from boat propeller blades are typically parallel and curvilinear. - - - Case 6 Fig6.1 The propeller wounds begin on the face and continue down the neck onto the left shoulder and left upper arm. Fig6.2 A wound across the forehead fractured the frontal bone, including the orbital plates. A man drove his watercraft into the port side of a boat. The propeller wounds begin on the face and continue down the neck onto the left shoulder and left upper arm. A wound across the forehead fractured the frontal bone, including the orbital plates. This wound also transected the frontal lobes. Experimentation with the port propeller on a block of clay reproduced the wounds and allowed the determination to be made that the young man went feet first into the port propeller and not the starboard propeller. - - - Case 7 Fig7.1 Autoerotic death from whippits nitrous oxide cartridges. Fig7.2 The man had a white plastic trash bag over his head. Police were dispatched to an apartment complex at the request of the deceased’s room-mate, who advised them that he had discovered his roommate on his bed dead, inside his locked bedroom. The deceased was lying unclothed in his bed, with a white plastic “kitchen-type” trash bag over his head. A portable DVD player was on a nightstand next to the bed with the menu screen of a gay pornographic movie playing. A bottle of Astroglide lubricant and a pink rubber/latex sexual aid were also located on the nightstand next to the bed. Lying on top of the bed, near the subject’s feet, was a white plastic whipped topping dispenser. This dispenser utilizes nitrous oxide canisters as a propellant to dispense the topping. Near the subject’s left leg were two boxes of EZ Whip nitrous oxide canisters. One of the boxes was opened and contained three unused canisters. The other box was still sealed and complete, containing a total of 24 canisters. Discovered scattered on the floor around the bed were 20 used nitrous oxide canisters. These used canisters, along with the one still contained in the dispenser and the 3 unused canisters still in the box, accounted for a complete box of 24 nitrous oxide canisters.
