Some of the stuff I work on doesn't make the cut so I thought about gathering them up in a single post. So basically it's images I have little or no info about or I've decided that they don't get their own thread, for example, because of low image/content quality, lack of backstory or additional info/knowledge, possibly uninteresting, only one image but not very special. I still do the usual image work including upscaling and color correction as needed, as I prefer to have my content high quality and educational.

Case 1

India. This body was found in a pond, no further info. Associated with putrefaction is the production of gases. These gases, primarily located in the abdomen, cause the body to become distended or bloat. This bloating can cause the affected areas of the body to expand dramatically. The pressure may cause the eye globes and tongue to protrude. Over time the affected areas may rupture or the gas may subside naturally. Skin slippage, or the shedding of the epidermis from the body caused by the deterioration of the junction between the dermis and epidermis, is also associated with early decomposition processes. Many local environmental factors affect the decomposition process, including temperature, moisture, and soil chemistry, but the processes of autolysis and putrefaction are responsible for the chemical breakdown of tissues.

This individual has a fatal crushing injury to his head, no further info. A crushing brain injury causes damage to the brain, blood vessels, and skull, each of which can be life-threatening: A skull fracture exposes the brain to further damage by robbing the brain of its protective case. Further, fragments of the skull may puncture the brain or blood vessels, causing more damage.

Although putrefaction is a mainly anaerobic bacterial reduction process, decomposition is dominated by aerobic microbiological processes that may create pungent, rotten odours originating from the metabolic products of oxida*tion. Decomposition is a dry, acidic process on an oxida*tive basis, which leads to the splitting off of acids (carbonic acid, phosphoric acid, sulphuric acid). At the beginning of decomposition, large patches of fungus may form on the skin and mucous membranes.

Fungi may colonize the body in every possible location and at all times during the postmortem interval. However, the eyes are more often affected by fungal colonization under dry conditions and the mouth and nose are more often colonized with fungi in moist to wet environments. Fungi may mimic antemortem pouring of chemical substances over the body.

Fungi can form distinctive mildew spots, ultimately converting bodies into moldy cadavers at the dry stage of decomposition. Heavily decomposed cadavers, in particular those that are highly mummified, often present visible fungal growth. Artificial cultivation has allowed for the morphological identification of the fungi that tend to colonize cadavers.

This individual died in his bedroom during a house fire, no further info. Nearly 4000 Americans die each year in house fires and over 2000 are severely injured. In only 3 1/2 minutes, the heat from a house fire can reach over 600°C (1100°F). Having a working smoke detector more than doubles one's chances of surviving a fire.

In contact gunshot wounds with bony tissue underlying the injury, the injuries are typically called a stellate wound, where the gases exit the barrel before the projectile. As a result, the gas collides with the bone tissue, resulting in the reflection of the gases. This gas causes the expansion of subcutaneous space and pressure, which results in an explosive injury, tearing, and lacerating the skin and subcutaneous tissue, resulting in the stellate wound.

On February 21, 1997, at approximately 4:09 p.m., the Pottawatomie County, Kansas, Sheriff’s Department took a missing person’s report on a 66-year-old woman named Rose. A neighbor became concerned when noticing that Rose’s vehicle was still parked at her residence at 3 p.m. The neighbor knew that Rose would normally be at work. On February 22, a search party located the torso (head, arms, and legs missing) wrapped in a blanket and multicolored afghan under tree roots on the west bank of a creek approximately 200 yards east of Rose’s residence.

James Martin, a 28-year-old ex-convict pled guilty to capital murder and burglary. In return for his guilty plea, the State of Kansas agreed not to seek the death penalty. James Martin was sentenced to 40 years for the capital murder and 102 months (8 1⁄2 years) for the burglary. The sentences were to run consecutively.
