The Shocker's Mix 21
Some of the stuff I work on doesn't make the cut so I thought about gathering them up in a single post. So basically it's images I have little or no info about or I've decided that they don't get their own thread, for example, because of low image/content quality, lack of backstory or additional info/knowledge, possibly uninteresting, only one image but not very special. I still do the usual image work including upscaling and color correction as needed, as I prefer to have my content high quality and educational. - - - Case 1 Fig1.1 Flash suppressor burns from M-14 rifle. Flash suppressors generally consist of a cylinder, having a number of longitudinal slits along its length that is attached to the muzzle of the weapon. On firing, the gas emerging from the muzzle is bled out the slits rather than emerging as one large cloud. Soot is present in this cloud of gas. If the muzzle of such a weapon is held in contact with the body, the flash suppressor will produce a distinctive pattern of seared, blackened zones around the entrance due to the emerging jets of hot gas. If fully formed, this results in an unusual flower-like pattern of soot and seared skin. The number of slits will determine the number of petals to the flower and may give one an idea of the type of weapon used. Thus, for the M-14 with five slits in the flash suppressor, there are five petals to the flower pattern. The flash suppressor on the M-16A1 and AR-15 rifles initially had three slits, which was changed to six slits. The M-16A2, AR-15A2, and M-4 have a suppressor with five slits with the absence of the slit at the 6 o’clock position. The skin underlying these linear deposits of soot is seared, with the soot often being baked into the skin. The flower pattern of the suppressor is more prominent when the wound is in an area of the body with loose skin that can enclose the suppressor. The petal pattern of a flash suppressor may be on the clothing rather than the skin. - - - Case 2 Fig2.1 Suicidal ligature strangulation utilizing cable ties. This individual committed suicide by fastening cable ties around his neck, leading to suffocation. Each cable tie was assembled from two cable ties to make a longer one that could go around the neck. The thyroid cartilage was fractured and the tip of the tongue had bite marks on it. Strangulation is a type of mechanical asphyxia produced by constriction of the neck using ligature material, without suspending the body. Suicidal self-strangulation is rare and requires the use of a ligature that can be locked by some mechanism; in this case report a self-locking cable tie was utilized. - - - Case 3 Fig3.1 The entrance wound is on the forehead and has a stellate-shaped appearance. Fig3.2 The gas causes the expansion of subcutaneous space and pressure, which results in an explosive injury. This individual committed suicide with a sawed-off IZH-18 shotgun. The entrance wound is on the forehead and has a stellate-shaped appearance. In contact gunshot wounds with bony tissue underlying the injury, the injuries are typically called a stellate wound, where the gases exit the barrel before the projectile. As a result, the gas collides with the bone tissue, resulting in the reflection of the gases. This gas causes the expansion of subcutaneous space and pressure, which results in an explosive injury, tearing, and lacerating the skin and subcutaneous tissue, resulting in the stellate wound. - - - Case 4 Fig4.1 Man killed in arc flash electrocution. Fig4.2 An arc flash occurs when energy is rapidly released. This individual died after getting electrocuted, an electric arc formed and burned away part of his neck. An electric arc, or arc discharge, is an electrical breakdown of a gas that produces a prolonged electrical discharge. The current through a normally nonconductive medium such as air produces a plasma; the plasma may produce visible light. It almost sounds like something out of a science fiction novel; out of nowhere, within milliseconds, heat hotter than the sun occurs, everything surrounding you melts, including metal. The burns you suffer are horrific. An arc flash is the result of an arc fault and is the visible part of the fault, resulting in heat and light. It occurs when energy is rapidly released and travels from one phase Busbar to another phase Busbar, or from a phase Busbar to the ground. During an arc flash, the air acts as a conductor, basically becoming a short-circuit in the air. An arc fault is one of the most devastating and deadly electrical problems experienced. The resultant discharge and electrical explosion cause significant damage to nearby equipment. The discharge is also a severe problem for anybody in the area as well. - - - Case 5 Fig5.1 Perforation of the palate. 30-Year-old man, transferred to a hospital, dying of complications due to infection. There was a pronounced upward and slightly posterior trajectory, following the midline with a slight deviation to the right. There was a clear wound in the palate, crossing the right anterior cerebral fossa. - - - Case 6 Fig6.1 Bloody cough from gunshot suicide. This individual committed suicide with a gun, there was no further info but it looks like he might have used or tried to use two guns, possibly one to the side of the head and the other inside the mouth. Note the bloody cough and numerous tiny blood droplets surrounding the mouth opening. Cough as a reaction of foreign tracheal content requires intact reflex circles. Sometimes bloody cough results in a very specific blood spreading pattern of small drops more or less surrounding the mouth or distributing along the direction of cough. Substances such as blood trigger the cough reflex, so if for any reason blood accumulates in the airways, it will be ejected this way. - - - Case 7 Fig7.1 Suicide with a homemade 12-gauge shotgun cartridge filled with screws, nuts, and other metal objects. The image shows a wound caused by a flare gun that fired a homemade 12-gauge shotgun cartridge filled with screws, nuts, and other small metal objects. Although it is not known if all the satellite defects surrounding the central defect are the result of powder particles or small metal projectiles, it is clear that the victim’s hair, which has been partially shaved, shielded the scalp from gunshot residue and small projectile impact. Note the difference between the upper, shaved scalp area and the forehead. - - - Part 1 --- Part 2 --- Part 3 --- Part 4 --- Part 5 --- Part 6 --- Part 7 --- Part 8 --- Part 9 --- Part 10 --- Part 11 --- Part 12 --- Part 13 --- Part 14 --- Part 15 --- Part 16 --- Part 17 --- Part 18 --- Part 19 --- Part 20 - This post is for educational purposes only and is nonprofit. Hot damn! Your best yet, Herm! Case #4 has a bit of a burn on the meat. Might have left it on a bit long. |

Number 6 with the akimbo to the dome. Interesting! he managed to pull em both considering the trigger delays. |

I think he burned off his beard. He should have used the disposable Bic razor. No mess, no fuss. Razor burn may be an issue.
