Some of the stuff I work on doesn't make the cut so I thought about gathering them up in a single post. So basically it's images I have little or no info about or I've decided that they don't get their own thread, for example, because of low image/content quality, lack of backstory or additional info/knowledge, possibly uninteresting, only one image but not very special. I still do the usual image work including upscaling and color correction as needed, as I prefer to have my content high quality and educational.

Suicidal twelve-bore shotgun wound. The entrance is one of the ‘sites of election’, in the neck. One barrel of a double-barrelled shotgun was used, the unfired barrel causing a muzzle mark. Sites of election are the temple, the neck, the mouth and the chest. Suicides rarely shoot themselves in the eye or abdomen.

Suicidal twelve-bore shotgun wound. Not all such wounds are circular – this one has torn a large defect in the chest wall because of its tangential orientation. The smoke smudging is extensive, having overshot and been deflected from the wound interior. The precordium is another common site for suicidal shooting.

Shotgun wound from a twelve-bore weapon. The circular outline indicates that the discharge was perpendicular to the skin surface. The central hole was caused by the entry of a confluent mass of shot, though there were no wads in the wound. The diameter of the peripheral pellet pattern was about 12 cm, which suggests that, approximately, the range was about 4 m. Test firing must always be carried out, however, to obtain a more exact estimate. Whatever the actual range, it is clear that it could not be suicidal.

Tangential shotgun wound of face. The edge of the dispersal cone of pellets and gas has ploughed through the cheek, and removed the ear. The facial bones and base of the skull were fractured.

The weapon was a F-N rifle with a high muzzle velocity; the impact of the missile on the base of the skull instantly converted the kinetic energy into a virtual explosion

Localized injury by an explosive device. The soldier picked up an apparently ‘dud’ smoke shell, which then detonated. He lived for some weeks, the injury having partly healed, though part of the face and skull were destroyed.

Spain. The body of a 22-year-old man was found inside a metal workshop lying on the bench of an electric tape saw used for cutting metals. A suicide note was found at the scene. The man had no confirmed psychiatric history, although he was dealing with some personal problems.

The head was nearly completely decapitated, a small flap of skin remained in the left posterior side. The head was lying on the tray of the machine in a pool of blood. Blood streaks were found on the floor, from the cutting of arteries.
