The Shocker's Mix 87

Some of the stuff I work on doesn't make the cut so I thought about gathering them up in a single post. So basically it's images I have little or no info about or I've decided that they don't get their own thread, for example, because of low image/content quality, lack of backstory or additional info/knowledge, possibly uninteresting, only one image but not very special. I still do the usual image work including upscaling and color correction as needed, as I prefer to have my content high quality and educational.

Fig1.2 Furrow marks from the zip tie.

Russia. This individual committed suicide by strangulation with a zip tie, a self-locking cable tie. Strangulation is a type of mechanical asphyxia produced by constriction of the neck using ligature material, without suspending the body.

Fig2.2 Fatal injuries from a hand grenade.

Fatal injuries from a hand grenade. A grenade is an explosive weapon typically thrown by hand (also called hand grenade), but can also refer to a shell (explosive projectile) shot from the muzzle of a rifle (as a rifle grenade) or a grenade launcher. A modern hand grenade generally consists of an explosive charge ("filler"), a detonator mechanism, an internal striker to trigger the detonator, an arming safety secured by a transport safety. The user removes the transport safety before throwing, and once the grenade leaves the hand the arming safety gets released, allowing the striker to trigger a primer that ignites a fuze (sometimes called the delay element), which burns down to the detonator and explodes the main charge.

Fig3.1 Suicide with a knife.

Russia. This individual committed suicide by cutting his neck with a knife, no further info. Cut throat injuries can be either suicidal or homicidal. These are well recognized methods of homicide and are less commonly used in suicides and are very rarely accidental. Suicide is one of the leading causes of death in the world. The incidence and pattern of suicide vary from country to country. Cultural, religious and social value plays a vital role. Psychiatric illness, psychological stress and poverty are some of the associated factors of suicidal cut throat injury.

Fig4.1 Postmortem animal scavenging.

The phenomenon of postmortem animal interference with human bodies or their remains is a substantial part of the taphonomic processes a body undergoes after death and animal depredation occurring after death is routinely encountered in forensic pathology. Postmortem injuries can be inflicted by all kinds of animals, irrespective of their size or environmental origin, whether from land, sea, or air. The discrimination between antemortem injury versus postmortem artifacts generally presents no difficulties because of the total absence of hemorrhages and reddening in the tissue adjacent to the wound margins and the lack of any vital reaction under the microscope.

Fig5.1 Fatal injury after a shell explosion.

Fatal injury on the side of the neck and jaw after a shell explosion, no further info. A shell, in a military context, is a projectile whose payload contains an explosive, incendiary, or other chemical filling. Originally it was called a bombshell, but "shell" has come to be unambiguous in a military context. Modern usage sometimes includes large solid kinetic projectiles, which are more properly termed shot. Solid shot may contain a pyrotechnic compound if a tracer or spotting charge is used.

Fig6.1 Under the chin gunshot suicide.

This individual has committed an under the chin suicide with a gun. The head is the most common location for a suicidal shotgun wound (74%), followed by the chest (20%) and then the abdomen (6%). In head wounds, the most common location was intraoral (50%), followed by under the chin (19%); side of head, including parietal and temporal wounds (15%); and the face, including the forehead (13%).

Fig7.2 A 31-year-old man was found dead in his room in a therapeutic community for the mentally ill after not being seen by his caregiver for four days. A plastic rubbish bag was pulled over his head and held in place with thin household rubber. A helium gas container (22.5 l) stood on the floor, to which a plastic hose was attached using adhesive tape.

Fig7.3 The corpse of an approximately 30-year-old male was found in a hotel room. The man was found with a gas-filled bag placed over his head and sealed with a tape around the neck.

Helium is one of inert gases causing physical asphyxiation, whose excess content in the breathing atmosphere reduces the partial pressure of oxygen and may be fatal after short-term exposure. When breathing a mixture of an inert gas (helium, nitrogen, argon) with a small amount of oxygen, with the possibility of exhaling carbon dioxide, no warning signs characteristic of suffocation are perceived by the subject. Freedom from discomfort and pain, effectiveness, rapid effect, and relatively easy availability of required accessories have resulted in the use of inert gases for suicidal purposes.

Utterly Shock-cidal Damn I'm happy DR didn't exist back then when we used to horse around with helium balloons wanting to sound like Chip and Dale. Nothing bad ever happened thankfully but I think it's fair to say nobody would want their dead kids ending up on the internet for all to see.

Are you sure the subject in the neck slicing suicide is male? That profile and dentition looks female to me.

Re: The Shocker's Mix 87

I find it horrifying that the caregiver went to find the mentally ill individual after FOUR days. Shouldn't he have been checked on and interacted with DAILY? In care homes that I know of, that is the usual requirement.
I've wondered why, since the feeling of suffocation is not present, why Helium is not used to kill condemned inmates. Seems easier and less traumatic (though some of the crimes they have done really beg for their very vicious and traumatic death like they give their victims).

I'm pretty sure it's because the bodies float up to the ceiling and don't come down until the next day...

Re: The Shocker's Mix 87

If you haven't gone to Herman's website, you all owe it to yourselves to take a look. It took me two years to even notice the link at the bottom of his posts. It's in red now. you can spend days looking at all the stuff Herman has compiled, and no petty bickering (I know, guilty as charged).

Real observant, eh?

Fantastic post, as usual Herm!

Re: The Shocker's Mix 87

The first one who committed suicide by zip tie looks more peaceful than a hanging. His tongue isn’t all protruding.

Great post as usual. Thanks Herman.

Re: The Shocker's Mix 87

I’m pretty surprised the zip tie suicide had no marks of him trying to remove it. Based on the hangings seen here I assume a lot of people change their mind.
