The Shocker's Mix 70
Some of the stuff I work on doesn't make the cut so I thought about gathering them up in a single post. So basically it's images I have little or no info about or I've decided that they don't get their own thread, for example, because of low image/content quality, lack of backstory or additional info/knowledge, possibly uninteresting, only one image but not very special. I still do the usual image work including upscaling and color correction as needed, as I prefer to have my content high quality and educational. - - - Case 1 Fig1.1 Maggot infestation on skeletonized body. Maggots cause most of the body's decomposition because the maggot will do the majority of the eating. Maggots have powerful proteolytic enzymes that aid the dissolution of tissues and facilitate penetration. The maggots are voracious and energetic, first exploring the natural passages, such as mouth and nostrils, then burrowing into the tissues. They secrete digestive fluids with proteolytic enzymes that help soften the tissues, burrowing beneath the skin, and making tunnels and sinuses that hasten putrefaction by admitting air and access to external micro-organisms. Successive waves of eggs are laid, producing new generations of maggots. Eventually, loss of tissue and drying makes the host cadaver unattractive to egg-laying insects, and the later stages of decomposition become free from maggots. - - - Case 2 Fig2.1 Gunshot wound in the right temple. This individual died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the right temple. The impression of the muzzle print can be seen, and a comparison picture of the weapon. - - - Case 3 Fig3.1 Postmortem animal activity. The phenomenon of postmortem animal interference with human bodies or their remains is a substantial part of the taphonomic processes a body undergoes after death and animal depredation occurring after death is routinely encountered in forensic pathology. Postmortem injuries can be inflicted by all kinds of animals, irrespective of their size or environmental origin, whether from land, sea, or air. The discrimination between antemortem injury versus postmortem artifacts generally presents no difficulties because of the total absence of hemorrhages and reddening in the tissue adjacent to the wound margins and the lack of any vital reaction under the microscope. - - - Case 4 Fig4.1 Gunshot suicide. Complete destruction of the head from a gunshot suicide. No further info. Head injuries from shotguns and high-powered rifles are typically quite devastating, often with extensive soft tissue destruction, skull fractures, and pulpifaction of the brain. Occasionally, the brain is largely expelled from the cranial vault and may be found near the body. - - - Case 5 Fig5.1 Fatal fall from height. This individual fell from a great height and died. He suffered from crushing facial injuries and crushing brain injury. A crushing brain injury causes damage to the brain, blood vessels, and skull, each of which can be life-threatening: A skull fracture exposes the brain to further damage by robbing the brain of its protective case. Further, fragments of the skull may puncture the brain or blood vessels, causing more damage. - - - Case 6 Fig6.1 Man killed when hit by a car. This individual was hit by a car and slid on the road surface that lead to injuries to the head and limbs. In this case, abrasions and bruised wounds are formed on the protruding parts of the face and head, as well as slip marks - extensive precipitation, against which deeper parallel scratches are visible. - - - Case 7 Fig7.1 Postmortem animal predation on woman's face by a domestic pet. King County, WA, USA. The face of this woman shows typical postmortem animal scavenging injuries, in this case from a domestic pet, the type of pet was not disclosed. A considerable amount of skin and subcutaneous fatty tissue are missing.
