Some of the stuff I work on doesn't make the cut so I thought about gathering them up in a single post. So basically it's images I have little or no info about or I've decided that they don't get their own thread, for example, because of low image/content quality, lack of backstory or additional info/knowledge, possibly uninteresting, only one image but not very special. I still do the usual image work including upscaling and color correction as needed, as I prefer to have my content high quality and educational.

Case 1

This individual committed suicide by hanging. Here the body is at the morgue for inspection. Hanging is one of the most commonly used methods for suicide in both sexes worldwide.

Fig2.3 Dana Bailey, a University student who was stabbed to death in her State College apartment.

Police found the body of Dana Bailey on March 5, 1987, at her apartment, 1321⁄2 S. Allen St., above Crabtree Jewelers. She sustained six or seven stab wounds to the heart and lungs. She was 22-years-old. Dana became the victim of an offender who had stalked her. He came into her apartment in the middle of the night, bound her, and placed a blindfold over her eyes. He killed her by stabbing her in her breasts and chest. He did not complete the sexual assault and instead “posed” his victim’s body and went back to his original voyeur location and then masturbated as he viewed his victim’s body combining his fantasy with reality. The assailant has not been found.

The individual shown in the image committed suicide by shotgun. The image is taken during autopsy. The head is the most common location for a suicidal shotgun wound (74%), followed by the chest (20%) and then the abdomen (6%). In head wounds, the most common location was intraoral (50%), followed by under the chin (19%); side of head, including parietal and temporal wounds (15%); and the face, including the forehead (13%).

Fig4.1 Woman was found dead in her bedroom.

A 56-year-old woman was found dead in her bedroom. Her face and the bed were covered with thick coffee-ground emesis and a pail located adjacent to the bed contained similar material. At autopsy, the upper gastrointestinal tract contained a large quantity of altered blood. The blood was found to originate from a large chronic duodenal ulcer that had eroded into the lumen of an artery in its base.

Fig5.1 A 58-year-old woman was found dead in her bed.

A 58-year-old woman was found dead in her bed with blood emanating from her mouth. The blood was found to arise from a previously undiagnosed squamous cell carcinoma of the lung that had invaded a pulmonary artery branch and an adjacent bronchus, thus forming a broncho-arterial fistula with rapid exsanguination.

Occasionally, one is able to glean important information from wounds such as in the 19-year-old female featured in this image. This individual was one of four people killed in a single-vehicle accident. The patterned abrasion on her chest is consistent with that left by a passenger-side seat belt. This feature proved key to the ultimate identification of the driver because severe body fragmentation and commingling at the scene led to confusion among investigators.
