Some of the stuff I work on doesn't make the cut so I thought about gathering them up in a single post. So basically it's images I have little or no info about or I've decided that they don't get their own thread, for example, because of low image/content quality, lack of backstory or additional info/knowledge, possibly uninteresting, only one image but not very special. I still do the usual image work including upscaling and color correction as needed, as I prefer to have my content high quality and educational.

Blunt impact injuries result from direct contact of a blunt object with a body. A contusion results from the blunt impact of significant force to rupture capillaries underneath the skin surface while leaving the skin surface intact, while an abrasion results from scraping off of the superficial epidermis. When you are in a motorcycle accident, a common result is blunt force trauma. As a motorcyclist, you are exposed to the elements, and there is no seatbelt to keep you from being flung free of your vehicle when you are struck; and neither are there walls to prevent other cars from hitting you directly, possibly at high speeds. While sometimes minor, blunt force trauma injuries can result in severe complications and even death.

This woman has been dismembered, no further info. Dismemberment of a corpse has always been viewed by society to be a more hideous crime than the homicide itself. The perpetrators of criminal corpse dismemberment act mostly with the aim of facilitating body removal, covering up the traces of the crime, and hindering identification (defensive mutilation). More rarely, they are motivated by other factors: aggression against the victim, expressed after the individual’s death (aggressive mutilation); dismemberment that accompanies lust murders or necrosadistic murders (offensive mutilation); as well as winning a trophy or a fetish (necromaniac mutilation). In defensive mutilations, the perpetrator divides the body of the victim into pieces that allow for transporting the corpse and concealing it where it will not be noticed. In the majority of cases, the head and extremities are cut off the trunk, or the body is cut in halves across the trunk.

Smothering and suffocation are often used interchangeably, but the term “smothering” is best used for that form of asphyxia in which the nose and mouth are obstructed e.g. by a hand/ paper, clothes, pillow, plastic bag etc. Gagging people to keep them quiet may lead to smothering. Signs of asphyxia are commonly absent or are only slight/ and because marks of injury may be few—if any at all— homicidal smothering may be difficult to diagnose.

USA. A 36-year-old white man committed suicide after carrying out an attack that left 1 coworker dead and 6 others injured. The man shot himself 4 times with a 12-gauge, pump-action shotgun loaded with cartridges containing birdshot and cartridges containing Federal brand, Premium no. 00 copper-plated buckshot, producing wounds to the head, chin, neck, and left side of the chest. The injury of the head was a contact/graze wound that entered the central forehead and exited the frontal scalp, with the shot not penetrating the skull.

This individual has a skull fracture with exposure of brain mass, as well as a fracture of the viscerocranial bones. Head injuries are one of the most common causes of disability and death in adults. The injury can be as mild as a bump, bruise (contusion), or cut on the head, or can be moderate to severe in nature due to a concussion, deep cut or open wound, fractured skull bone(s), or from internal bleeding and damage to the brain.

Italy. On the morning of December 4, 2000, a 33-year-old man was found unresponsive in his bed in the barracks of the Italian army, with the weapon still in his hand. The victim had been drafted into the military corps 10 years earlier with a physical and mental fitness assessment; a divorce had been going on for about 3 months. The body was lying on his right side, with the right arm bent and positioned under the chest. The right hand was hanging from the right edge of the bed. The right thumb was in contact with the trigger, while the second and third fingers were wrapped around the butt of the gun. The left hand was positioned on top of the last two fingers of the right hand, closing them into a fist, with the two palmar surfaces touching. The barrel of the gun was facing towards the frontal bone of the victim. The pistol was a Pietro Beretta Mod. 84F cal. 9 corto supplied by the Italian armed forces. From the evidence collected during scene investigation and autoptic examination, the man shot himself while lying in a supine position on his bed. He pulled the trigger with the first of his right hand while the other fingers were grasping the butt of the gun.
