The Shocker's Mix 94

Some of the stuff I work on doesn't make the cut so I thought about gathering them up in a single post. So basically it's images I have little or no info about or I've decided that they don't get their own thread, for example, because of low image/content quality, lack of backstory or additional info/knowledge, possibly uninteresting, only one image but not very special. I still do the usual image work including upscaling and color correction as needed, as I prefer to have my content high quality and educational.

Fig1.2

In this corpse, the skeletal reduction of the head is observed with exposure of the skull and facial mass, a product of post-mortem predation by dogs. In the close-up, two characteristics of post-mortem predation by dogs can be observed: first, the edges are very irregular, with areas of avulsion and no vital reaction, and second, the presence of parallel linear excoriations in the vicinity of the margins of the injury, corresponding to the dog's claws.

In cases with postmortem animal predation, the psychological state of the animal is a possible reason for its behavior. One possible explanation for such behavior is that a pet will try to help an unconscious owner first by licking or nudging, but when this fails to produce any results the behavior of the animal can become more frantic and in a state of panic can lead to biting. The motive is not to attack the owner but is a kind of ‘‘displacement’’ behavior motivated by confusion and fear. The fact that the efforts of the animal will obviously be fruitless explains why this can easily escalate and culminate in excessive mutilation.

Incised wound of the neck. Red blood clots in the wound. No further info. Incised wound is A clean, straight cut caused by a sharp edge (i.e. a knife). Tends to bleed heavily as multiple vessels may be cut directly across. Connecting structures such as ligaments and tendons may also be involved.

Fig3.1 Fracture of the pelvic bones.

Fracture of the pelvic bones with perineal rupture. Bilateral fracture of the pubic and ischial bones, “butterfly” type. Fractures of the pelvis are uncommon and range widely from mild (if the minor ring is broken) to severe (if the major ring is broken). Pelvic rings often break in more than one place. A mild fracture (such as may happen from the impact of jogging) may heal in several weeks without surgery.

Fig4.2 Extensive tissue removal on head and chest.

This soldier died in the Ukraine-Russia war and his body was scavenged by animals postmortem. The phenomenon of postmortem animal interference with human bodies or their remains is a substantial part of the taphonomic processes a body undergoes after death and animal depredation occurring after death is routinely encountered in forensic pathology. Postmortem injuries can be inflicted by all kinds of animals, irrespective of their size or environmental origin, whether from land, sea, or air. The discrimination between antemortem injury versus postmortem artifacts generally presents no difficulties because of the total absence of hemorrhages and reddening in the tissue adjacent to the wound margins and the lack of any vital reaction under the microscope.

Fig5.1 Gunshot to the head in a suicide.

This individual committed suicide with a gunshot to the head. Head injuries from shotguns and high-powered rifles are typically quite devastating, often with extensive soft tissue destruction, skull fractures, and pulpifaction of the brain. Occasionally, the brain is largely expelled from the cranial vault and may be found near the body.

Fig6.3

Suicidal shotgun wound to the head from a buckshot. At close range, the shotgun is the most formidable and destructive of all small arms. For birdshot and buckshot loads, the severity and lethality of a shotgun wound depends on the number of pellets that enter the body, the organs struck by the pellets, and the amount of tissue destruction. Typically, these wounds are jagged, irregular lacerations with everted edges and bone fragments under the skin.

Fig7.2 The head of the victim covered by the scalp.

Poland, 1999. A 26-year-old man killed his father by multiple puncture wounds to the chest and neck using a sharpened screwdriver. He lured his father into the cellar and, before inflicting the fatal strokes, he tried in vain to electrocute him using a stun gun. After this, he hung his father by the legs in a cellar window and decapitated him using a surgical scalpel and shovel. Additionally, he made deep incisions across the popliteal fosse to bleed the corpse and collected the blood from the cervical stump vessels in a bucket. He then took the separated head and neck upstairs to his room and scalped it through the whole night.

Full case report here.

10 stars for this post. Thanks Herman. And I’ve said before that I don’t care if I get eaten by animals when I’m dead. . We’re just meat at the end of the day.
