The Shocker's Mix 74

Some of the stuff I work on doesn't make the cut so I thought about gathering them up in a single post. So basically it's images I have little or no info about or I've decided that they don't get their own thread, for example, because of low image/content quality, lack of backstory or additional info/knowledge, possibly uninteresting, only one image but not very special. I still do the usual image work including upscaling and color correction as needed, as I prefer to have my content high quality and educational.

Fig1.1 Decomposition may disguise real pellet or bullet holes.

Particular caution is advisable when dealing with heavily decomposed bodies. In this head of a young man infested with insect larvae, which may disguise real pellet or bullet holes or create an illusion of them. An entrance wound from a 6.35 cal. pistol detected in the forehead of a decomposed body after the scalp tissues had been reflected forward. Therefore, an external examination alone is never sufficient and a full autopsy is necessary.

Fig2.1 Advanced adipocere formation after 2.5 years in a grave.

Advanced adipocere formation after 2.5 years in a grave. Exhumation due to exclusion of an accidental death (fall) in a bathtub. The rate of decay of bodies buried in earth is much slower than of those in either air or water. In fact the process of putrefaction may be arrested to a remarkable degree in certain conditions, allowing exhumations several years later to be of considerable value. In this respect the prospect of an exhumation should never be dismissed on the grounds that because of the lapse of time, it is bound to be worthless. It may turn out to be of little value, but this cannot be anticipated, and not infrequently the condition of the body may be surprisingly good.

Fig3.1 The mummified body of an absconder from a mental hospital.

The mummified body of an absconder from a mental hospital who was found a year later in a hay barn. The dry environment had inhibited wet decomposition. Mummification is likely to occur in temperate climates when the body is left undisturbed in a dry, warm place. These include closed rooms and cupboards, haylofts, attics and beneath floorboards. After complete drying has taken place, the body may remain in that state for many years. Eventually, mould formation and physical deterioration progress, the dried tissues becoming split and powdery and gradually disintegrating. This process is usually hastened by animal predation. Even in the shelter of a barn or house, moths, beetles, mice and rats will wreak damage on the corpse. It will eventually skeletalize, though tough, leathery shreds of skin, tendon and ligament may persist for many years. Mummification allows major injuries to be preserved, though as in the putrefied body, the detection of bruises and abrasion may be difficult or impossible to differentiate from discolouration, artefacts and fungal damage.

Fig4.1 New York City hotel room autoerotic asphyxiation death.

The victim was discovered in a New York City hotel room lying on the floor with his leg and hands bound in a hog-tied fashion. There was a ligature consisting of dress ties wrapped around his neck and joined with a bathrobe sash that was secured to his ankle, which he used to pull the ties tight around his neck to create hypoxia. At first the authorities thought that they had a robbery homicide. However, the investigation indicated that the deceased had a history of engaging in autoerotic activities while on business trips. He had bound himself with neckties and towels from the hotel room. He had placed the sheets, pillows, and blanket from the bed on the floor to make himself more comfortable. He died from asphyxia.

Autoerotic death refers to the accidental death of individuals of either sex due to failure of devices, or unexpected effect of materials, that were being used to enhance the sexual experience. Although asphyxia from hanging has been described most frequently, a wide variety of other lethal situations have been reported. As there is great variability in the number and types of sexual aids that may be used by individuals, careful death scene examination is essential in helping to exclude suicide and more rarely homicide. The clandestine nature of this paraphilia may, however, make subsequent identification and diagnosis difficult unless the death scene features are typical. This is particularly so in the rare cases involving women.

A very Shocklicious compilation indeed! Danke schön! Case #5 feels especially poignant. And case #6 looks kinda neat. Sometimes it feels odd how "beautiful" some lethal wounds look.

Re: The Shocker's Mix 74

I’ve seen a man get his face peeled off on here but for some reason, these always get to me. The words, “intense human suffering” ring out. These people were desperate to die. There’s a lot of pain in these photos.

So, in that last image, is anyone else seeing CTHULHU the destroyer of worlds emerging there? Or is my pareidolia getting a bit dark on me here?
