Some of the stuff I work on doesn't make the cut so I thought about gathering them up in a single post. So basically it's images I have little or no info about or I've decided that they don't get their own thread, for example, because of low image/content quality, lack of backstory or additional info/knowledge, possibly uninteresting, only one image but not very special. I still do the usual image work including upscaling and color correction as needed, as I prefer to have my content high quality and educational.

Italy. A 62-years old man, with a depressive syndrome in pharmacological treatment, was found dead in the parking in front of a cemetery (where the wife was buried) of a small village near Milan, with his head under the hub of the anterior wheel of his car. On the anterior seat, next to the driver, there was a farewell letter for his family, in which he motivated the suicide to the loneliness, due to the recent death of his wife; he also explained the modality of the suicide: he lifted the car by the jack, then he positioned himself under the car and lowered it on himself. At the autopsy, the main injuries were localized at the head, that appeared deformed with a huge depression of the left side of the face. The internal exam revealed a complex of irregular fractures involving the cranial vault and basis, with blood-infiltrated edges that were also soiled by a black substance (sludge). The right hemisphere of the brain was destroyed with bilateral temporal and cerebellar sub-arachnoid haemorrhages. The cause of death was determined in a contusive traumatism that produced cranio-cerebral and facial injuries.

US. Shotgun suicide, c.a. 1940's, colorized. No further info. In the head, neck, and limbs, shotgun exit wounds can be ragged and very large, with extensive tissue damage. In a suicide where the gun has been placed in the mouth, there will be significant disruption of the head, and brain may be expelled, the so-called “burst head” effect.

Germany. This individual was murdered and the body then dumped in a river. A stab wound was noted in the chest. Corpse dumping is the disposal of corpses, i.e. taking a deceased to a place other than the place of death. For example to cover up a homicide or to simulate drowning.

This individual was found dead in water. Postmortem activity by eels were discovered on the body. Such injuries should not be confused with stab wounds or gunshot holes. In drowning victims or persons whose death led to their deposition in water or when a body has been dumped in an aquatic environment, postmortem artifacts on the body surface due to aquatic living structures are often observed, too, and should not be confused with vitally acquired injuries.

Fatal head injury from a boat propeller. No further info. Often when discussing boat safety one aspect is overlooked. Boat propeller safety is something any boater needs to be aware of. 18% of boating fatalities are caused by propeller accidents. Because of hydrodynamic forces, a person in the water comes in contact with the boat’s propeller. This can happen far faster than you might think. Even a strong swimmer may succumb to these forces.

This individual committed suicide by drowning because of financial worries. Bodies removed from water show excessive gas production and tissue discoloration, owing to explosive bacterial gas production. The gas causes the bodies to bloat excessively, which can cause an explosion or sudden rupture of the tense abdomen.

Decomposition in a wet environment differs from that in other settings, both in the changes that occur and the rate at which they occur. It is essential that the forensic pathologist or medicolegal death investigator recognize and appreciate the uniqueness of immersed and submerged remains. The typical decomposition changes proceed more slowly in the water, primarily due to cooler temperatures and the anaerobic environment. However, once a body is removed from the water, putrefaction will likely be accelerated. Postmortem changes are not only affected by water temperature, but also by current as well as obstacles and structures, both natural and man-made, that may interact with the remains.

Machete injuries are a source of appreciable morbidity in many developing nations. Machetes are generally long knives with a sharp edge, a broad blade and a thick back; the end may be curved or straight whilst the handle is made of wood or leather for comfortable grip. In military conflicts in some parts of Africa, they are often used as a close-range weapon. Machetes are weapons that are easily available to rural farmers for warding off trespassers from their property.

That's a creative form of suicide. Quick and assuredly fatal.

Never thought about the threat of the boat propeller. Could be a quite a risk if one falls off the bow of a moving boat, or into the path of a trailing boat.
