The Shocker's Mix 41

Some of the stuff I work on doesn't make the cut so I thought about gathering them up in a single post. So basically it's images I have little or no info about or I've decided that they don't get their own thread, for example, because of low image/content quality, lack of backstory or additional info/knowledge, possibly uninteresting, only one image but not very special. I still do the usual image work including upscaling and color correction as needed, as I prefer to have my content high quality and educational.

Fig1.2 The victim was heavily decomposed.

These remains were found in a ditch along a gravel road, at the edge of a National Forest. No further info.

The rate of decomposition depends on the temperature, ground conditions, amount of clothing, size of the body, etc. For example, a body in a warm climate will not only encourage insect attack from the outside, but will also increase the interior bacteria development and subsequent tissue attack from within. As the tissues inside are destroyed and enzymes released, the gases formed emit a foul and sickening smell.

USA. A 37-year-old woman was found dead on a sofa. Foam cone from nose and mouth. 100 ug/hr Fentanyl patch in her mouth, with pill residue in her stomach. Fentanyl at autopsy was 2.8 ng/ml, within the reported therapeutic range, plus therapeutic levels of Oxycodone and Diazepam.

Fig3.1 Injuries on the face.

This man had a fatal accident and has suffered traumatizing injuries on his face. No further info. Soft tissue injuries, whether isolated or in combination with other injuries, are among the most common traumatic craniofacial injuries encountered by emergency department personnel and plastic surgeons. In general, injury patterns vary greatly depending on the patient population. Slips, trips, and falls, which commonly cause isolated soft tissue injuries such as laceration and contusions, are most common in children and the elderly. Violence and motor vehicle accidents are the predominant causes of injury in individuals ranging from 15 to 50 years old.

Fig4.1 Nitrous oxide death.

Spain. There was no info if this was a suicide or an accident. Nitrous oxide is an inflammable gas that gives no smell or taste. It has a history of abuse as long as its clinical use, and deaths, although rare, have been reported. A 1979 study revealed that up to 20% of medical and dental students in U.S.A. had used nitrous oxide in social settings to produce a “high”.

Fig5.3 Conjunctival hyperaemia
due to suffocation.

Spain. This individual committed suicide by suffocation with a bag and cable ties. After placing the bag over his head he secured it with a cable tie, he then used cable ties to fasten his hands to his belt. Furrow mark left by bag were seen on the neck. Hyperaemia was noticed in glottis and adjacent tissues, and conjunctival hyperaemia in the eyes due to suffocation.

Fig6.1 Lacerations from a hammer.

Fatal lacerations from hammer on the head. No further info. Claw hammers have the specific characteristic of having two distinct ends: one a flat head of variable form, the other bifurcated. So the use of this tool as a blunt instrument will cause varying injuries.

A first injury composed of integumentary lacerations and underlying bone injuries in terms of "shape" suggested the use of a blunt instrument. A second injury made up of damage showing two parallel wounds or two wounds located one in the extension of the other suggested the use of an object with a bifurcated end. The combination of both types of injury should alert examiners to the possibility of the use of a claw hammer in causing the injuries in order to help direct investigators in their investigations and in the search for the weapon used.

Fig7.1 The victim had been lying on the linoleum floor bleeding profusely from her head wounds.

Michigan, US. Note the almost fetal-like impression in the blood. The victim had been lying on the linoleum floor bleeding profusely from her head wounds. There are also spines and spatter around the original head location. The victim had been stomped to death.

Body image patterns occur when the bleeding body has been lying in the blood, which seeps from the wounds. The blood pools form around the outline of the body, and as the blood solids separate from the serum the original position of the body is imaged on the surface.

The suffocation suicide appears somewhat painless.

The panic your body will go into when it realizes it's slowly running out of oxygen is apparently a real hell to experience as your last waking moments I've been told. Noble gases would probably be the way to go if you want painless in a bag mixed together

I wonder if that’s why you always seem to see hanging suicides make a last second grab for the noose just before they lose conciousness.

Really? Omg I imagine it would be absolutely awful. It sounds like a slow death as your body is fighting for oxygen.

Great set Herman. I still haven’t found any solution that appeals really. Apart from helium maybe.

Maybe nitrous oxide + plastic bag, you will be high when dying.

Re: The Shocker's Mix 41

Herm,

I'm going to pick helium. There won't be a high, but the voice pitch would be a riot.

Specimen 1.2 reminds me of "tar man" in, "Return of the Living Dead!"
