Re: Two Tourists Frozen to Death in Russia
I know what you have posted and I’m quite sure you have never been anywhere near there, or you would said otherwise a long time ago. You already acknowledged the flippant tone of your post regarding their unfortunate demise. Good. But then, you maintain your position that a simple snowmobile would have saved them. THAT is the problem. More respect should be shown to the deceased and your simple view of the situation is best reserved for your own backyard. Anyway, this isn’t really going anywhere, so I’ll leave this to you now. Goodbye. |

Re: Two Tourists Frozen to Death in Russia
Ease of survival depends on your skills and the equipment you have with you. Anyone with a clue would plan for the possibility of being "stuck in the elements" even if they did not *expect* it to happen. You see, sometimes things happen that you don't expect. You should know that, given the site you are looking at. They would just need to be prepared for the *possibility* that might happen. Like sensible people. Bullshit. Go watch some hiking/camping videos on YouTube where people camp in (literally) freezing conditions in snow for multiple days using equipment carried in a pack on their back. |

Re: Two Tourists Frozen to Death in Russia
Of course it is. As I said, plenty of people go hiking/camping in freezing snow carrying the right equipment in a pack on their back. If they can do that, you can easily carry the right gear on a snowmobile. IIRC (from many years ago) consuming hot drink can trigger the body to cool itself down, but at the same time eating *anything* can cause the body to warm itself up due to digestion. I don't think the consumption of food would be a deciding factor (heat-wise) either way, it's really about shelter and warmth (retain body heat and insulation from the cold ground). Yes. Basic hierarchy of needs. This! |

Re: Two Tourists Frozen to Death in Russia
Common sense and a bit of basic knowledge is sufficient. You should try it. It is not necessary to have been in freezing snowy conditions to know what the human body needs to survive in those conditions. Short term (overnight) - shelter, warmth (insulation from wind chill and cold ground). Next would be water, which shouldn't be difficult in this case. Food becomes a concern after a few days, especially if energy is required. Some sort of distress alerting device (PLB, satellite tracker, etc) would allow them to summon help within a few hours or at worst within a day so that they would not need to carry enough supplies to survive for an extended period. Go watch some YouTube videos where hikers/campers survive in freezing cold snow (for fun!) using equipment they carry in a pack on their back. |

Re: Two Tourists Frozen to Death in Russia
Ya’ll arguing about not being prepared but 24 of them survived so they must have some type of survival gear with them. The guy in red had broken branches all around him and the other guy had a bloody injury on his nose. Did they crash? Fight? There’s a gun on the ground too! The guy in all black wasn’t even near his snow mobile and his gear was all over the place. No wonder there’s a criminal investigation.

Re: Two Tourists Frozen to Death in Russia
Bit more. According to preliminary data, two people died from hypothermia. One of the dead, a 35-year-old tourist from Almetyevsk (Republic of Tatarstan), suffered a heart attack. The second person killed was V. D, a guide from Khakassia who accompanied the tourists. He went on a snowmobile to clear the way for his group, but was never able to get to the base. V. D., was a high-class athlete. He practiced freeride on a snowmobile for about 10 years. He was a responsive and responsible person. He's the son of the ex-Minister of Sports of Khakassia. |

Re: Two Tourists Frozen to Death in Russia
Not that easy, they would've been buried in snow by dawn. It snows so damn much over there that even some trees end up completely buried
