Two Tourists Frozen to Death in Russia
The Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee for the Krasnoyarsk Territory and Khakassia has initiated a criminal investigation into the deaths of two tourists in Khakassia, as reported by the regional investigation department's press service. The investigation revealed that on December 6, two groups of tourists from the Perm Territory, St. Petersburg, Tatarstan, and Khakassia departed from the Khakassian village of Priiskovoe on snowmobiles. They failed to return to their base at the scheduled time and lost contact. Due to worsening weather conditions, including strong winds and snowstorms, the group was unable to navigate out of the mountainous taiga region, forcing them to spend the night there. The following day, an employee from the guest house where the tourists were staying reported their disappearance to the police, prompting an organized search. The search, involving volunteers, the South Siberian search and rescue team, and the Ministry of Emergency Situations in Khakassia, located 24 tourists. Tragically, two tourists from different groups were found deceased. The Investigative Committee suspects that one tourist died due to a sudden health issue, while another, attempting to clear a path with a snowmobile, got caught in a snowstorm and couldn't return to the group. A criminal case has been opened under Part 3 of Article 238 of the Russian Federation's Criminal Code. This article pertains to the provision of services that fail to meet safety standards, resulting in negligent death. The bodies of the deceased tourists have been recovered and are undergoing examinations. A forensic medical examination is also planned to determine the exact causes of death. The rescue operation to evacuate the tourists stranded in the mountain-taiga area near Priiskovoye involved volunteers and other tourists. An Mi-8 helicopter from the Krasnoyarsk Integrated Aviation Rescue Center at Abakan airport was on alert but couldn't participate in the search due to adverse weather conditions. |

Re: Two Tourists Frozen to Death in Russia
I know a group of people that got stuck out in the middle of Wyoming during a snowstorm a few years back while snowmobiling. They were located three days later, and rescued via helicopter. The group survived, and went back for the snowmobiles later.

Re: Two Tourists Frozen to Death in Russia
Lesson Lernt: Dont pay a drunk Russian guy lead your trip in the deep bush Not sure of the circumstance... Getting yourself out of the element and in shelter would have gave them an overnight fighting chance in the elements.. ie; having the skillset to make a hasty shelter and fire under the conditions |

Re: Two Tourists Frozen to Death in Russia
During the day I would have tried to make some type of shelter accepting it was a life and death situation, using anything available to you. If one of them had a tent they would have survived. Too bad they were not expecting to get stuck in the middle of nowhere
