Re: Two Tourists Frozen to Death in Russia
I wonder how the guy with the blue & chartreuse is doing. He has some serious facial frostbite on his nose. One survivor of a group in the 1996 Everest disaster lost his nose, right arm left hand fingers and parts of his feet. I don't get why people have the need to climb (or snowmobile) somewhere so obviously dangers other than "Because it is there."

Re: Two Tourists Frozen to Death in Russia
I said they should have taken equipment with them. You seem to disagree with that and have tried to turn this into a debate about who has more experience of cold weather. You are obviously deliberately looking for an argument or attention, or both. I mean are you seriously saying it would have been pointless to go fully equipped ? Yes, that is exactly what you're saying. You don't know me but assume everything about me and you make some truly ridiculous points. If your quote were true that you have to go somewhere to know what it takes to survive there then nobody would have ever been on a spacewalk. Nobody would have ever reached the South Pole. Explain why I was wrong to say they should have taken survival gear with them, and don't move the goalposts again like you did in your previous remark. |

Re: Two Tourists Frozen to Death in Russia
Whether they were expecting to stay out overnight or not, the recommended plan is to bring that overnight back up stuff, just in case something happens, as it did for these people. Shit happens. The prepared survive. |

Re: Two Tourists Frozen to Death in Russia
Same here. Mt Washington in NH has the highest recorded wind speed on earth. Even in summer, it is highly recommended that you pack what you would need if you get caught out in a snowstorm!!! ANY time you are going away from civilization, into the wild, you would be very remiss to not bring overnight survival gear. |

Re: Two Tourists Frozen to Death in Russia
Thanks for some sensible input on the topic. Be careful though, bigbear Grylls is active in this thread and he's been on 2 ski vacations so he knows everything about survival. He's been serving me huge slices of humble pie served with lashings of his extraordinary knowledge |
