Re: Bail Bondsman Kills Perp While He Tries to Escape
I sense subtle misandry in your post. Sure, the "victim" wasn't exactly compliant and obedient by most people's definition. But Ms Carey fired the first shot, and there were NO advanced warnings whatsoever. If she sensed that his demeanor was too menacing and threatening, she could have held him at bay and warned him off. But, no, she was too quick to shoot and pump his body full of lead. This is manslaughter at best, second-degree murder at worst. The "self-defense" argument cannot apply here but, thanks to cameras, most sane and sound folks would know that. |

Re: Bail Bondsman Kills Perp While He Tries to Escape
The problem is what she did AFTER drawing the gun. It is pretty blatantly obvious that this man was unarmed. If you're staring down the barrel of a handgun, no matter what your gender or who you are, you're probably going to retreat. And if not, then a shot to the chest (or anywhere for that matter) is worth it. But she didn't hold him at bay. She didn't give a stern advanced warning. She just took him out and made sure he was a goner. Do you want to tell me that Mr Williams would have had the upper hand, if he was lying wounded with two shots to the right leg? That's how it COULD have transpired, but Ms Carey went full whacko. And that's not to say that Mr Williams was this innocent murder victim (ala Junko Furuta or Matthew Shepard). He was an ex-con FFS. But I'm not going to execute you just because of your "white-trash redneck douchebag" status. I don't have the right to, and even if I did, I'd get nothing out of it. |

Re: Bail Bondsman Kills Perp While He Tries to Escape
Uh, she was charged with murder. I don't know why you're all acting like she wasn't. The real issue with this situation is why the DA charged her with First-Degree Murder which this video clearly shows it was not. |

Re: Bail Bondsman Kills Perp While He Tries to Escape
I feel awful not only for the victim, but also for the killers son. He was obviously very shocked, and traumatized. It wouldn't surprise me if this messes the son up mentally and emotionally for life! He tries to tell his mother how effed up it is what she did and can't even manage to get the words out :'(

Re: Bail Bondsman Kills Perp While He Tries to Escape
It's second-degree murder at the worst. "First-degree murder" requires elaborate (and deliberate) planning. Spontaneous crimes of passion typically fall under the "second-degree murder" category. At the end of the day, the results are practically the same. At least one man (or woman) is dead, six feet under, no chance of revival. And whoever, whomever, took his/her/their life is facing a VERY lengthy prison sentence. (Unless you're Casey Anthony or OJ or George Zimmerman, but there are always exceptions to the rule and acts of injustice) |

Re: Bail Bondsman Kills Perp While He Tries to Escape
He didn't look all that young though. I wonder why she'd bring her adolescent-aged/college-aged son (who probably had better things to do) to a one-on-one conversation with an ex-con. Then again, my daddy was a cook and never had the time to drag me by my feet to his workplace for "bring-your-kids-to-work day". |

Re: Bail Bondsman Kills Perp While He Tries to Escape
The DA there is trash. They overcharged her to begin with. 1st degree would require intent. That she lured him there with the specific goal of killing him. If the jury could've considered a lesser charge, she would've likely been convicted of 2nd degree murder, manslaughter, or even negligent homicide if they were feeling particularly generous. But to do that and just skate? Pretty fucked up. |
