Re: Exhumations
The court ordered an exhumation in a murder investigation, the case was about 14 years old. There was death threats and the sort made, so the state police tagged along. Talk about awkward, guns and shovels. All that was left of the guy was about 8 pounds of bones. The suspect had tried to hide the crime by arson, which did not work. His remains ( or cremains as they are somtimes called ) all fit in to a 1 gallon ziplock bag. The suspect was convicted, and sentenced to life. People ask if we were intimidated by the threats, simply put, no. I carry a .45 on these type of prospects. I get paid to do a job, and I will complete that job, short of death or divine intervention. |

Re: Exhumations
Too bad the perp didn't show up, you had a grave ready to fill and it would have saved taxpayers about $40,000 per year. I swear your job would make a great reality show like Bridezillas. Exploding mausoleum coffins, plastic liners, exhumations, inconsolable relatives. But the show would need good lawyers. Yes, please tell some more exhumation stories. BTW, maybe you could get a thigh holster for your .45 like the army uses, then you could shovel, operate the backhoe or fight off any undead you uncover, and you would look really cool. |

Re: Exhumations
Ok. Well, this one got pretty bad. I do not try to judge anyone, to each his own. This guy was addicted to meth, or God knows what else. Anyway, his family did the best they could for burial with no insurance. They put him in a "doe-skin" casket, and a metal box. A doe skin is a basic cardboard box, and has an outer cover that is simply for looks. A metal box is to keep the ground from sinking in above the grave. It has no water protection at all.

Re: Exhumations
Well, there was some strife among the family members about where he was buried. We got the go ahead to move him. As we got the box up towards the ground, the mud that had plugged the holes suddenly lost their plugging power. First the water was clear, then gray, then black. He had liquified, and drained out right in front our eyes, and noses.
