Re: Exhumations
I don't care how messy burial is; does burning flesh look much better ?? Yeah, yeah...cremation is more eco-friendly and cleaner.....but then, I'll be DEAD, so why the he** do I care about that ? Oh, and to boot I am an atheist. So no spiritual affirmations about cremation, either. I'll take a box instead of ashes any day of the week

Re: Exhumations
This one man was killed in a car wreck. He had some nasty outer trauma, and where there is trauma, that is where the body will start to decompose first. We had to exhume him, there was anger within the family about where he was buried. So, the wife gave permission to move him. Things were going fine at first, some nut did not let the spring loaded locks out when he was buried. Well, the bottom pan dropped out, when that happened, the casket shifted out. Thank GOD the casket was locked and sealed. Like I said, they are air tight, not gas tight !!! The gas had built up, and the gas and smell rushed out and hit us like a damn bus ! He had started to liquify from the injuries he suffered, and we could hear him sloshing around in the casket, kind of like water in a bucket. I can tell you some others if you are interested. |

Re: Exhumations
You may have a good point there ! I will check in to it. We had to adjust a man in an above ground mausoleum. He was decomposing at an unexpected rate, we had to take the casket out, put it in a special plastic wrapper, and then put it back. The smell was unimaginable. Big green horseflys had gathered at the gas vents, it was bad. A person had went to visit another grave, but as you can imagine, they were not able to stay. We received calls at the funeral home not long after. |
