There's a lot wrong with this one. The scene pictures of Diane Schuler indicate a pattern of injury I've seen many times before at fatal collisions. Someone who is heavily intoxicated generally does not tense up before a collision, because their brain is operating more slowly so they've already crashed before the tense up message gets from the brain to the muscles. The pattern of injury to the arms and shoulders is indicative of someone who is aware they're going to crash and has tensed up. That is almost unheard-of in people who are heavily intoxicated for the reason I've already mentioned.
I think it's most likely that the investigation and autopsy was bungled but the investigators just didn't care, or think anyone else would care, about what appeared to be an intoxicated driver fatal collision, and they're determined to keep their mess covered up, even if it destroys 3 innocent families...

Watching the documentary was very interesting and yet couldn't really answer the burning question of WHY? This is such an intriguing case because of how random it was.

Cop here. Seen many many fatality crashes. After seeing the documentary, autopsy report, and other stuff. I believe she was highly intoxicated and stoned in order to commit suicide with all the kids. Although you are correct in that drunks don't tense up during a crash, they will do so if they are intentionally causing the crash. She knew what she was doing and was damned wasted to do so.

As for the problem some folks have with taking her nieces along. I've learned through 20 years of policing that some suicidal people, especially intoxicated ones, don't have the best reasoning in any matter. I think they were along for the ride in her mind and probably decided they'd be better off in God's hands.

Pretty sure this is just bad wording. "The morning, just before, the crash" would have been more suitable.

She was a big girl to begin with, but when she crashed head on at that speed, her facial bones broke making her face even broader. She probably strted drinking fast and heavy an hour or so before the crash. Her stomach still had undigested alcohol in it, and her aqueous humor [eyes] also had alcohol in it. For some reason, she was a suicide who thought she had the right to take those children with her. Wil never forget that day.
