On January 7, 2026, 37-year-old Renée Nicole Macklin Good was shot and killed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Good, a U.S. citizen and mother of three, was sitting in her SUV near an area where federal immigration agents were carrying out an enforcement operation. Videos taken at the scene show agents approaching her vehicle before Good began to drive away. ICE agent Jonathan Ross then fired three shots at the SUV, striking Good. She was later taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Federal officials said Ross fired because he believed Good was trying to hit him with her vehicle and that he acted in self-defense. However, videos of the shooting led to questions about that explanation. Footage shows Ross near the front and side of the SUV as it began moving, and local officials argued that the shooting appeared unnecessary. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey strongly criticized the use of deadly force, while federal officials continued to defend the agent's actions. The different accounts of what happened quickly made the shooting a major source of controversy.

Good's death led to protests in Minneapolis and increased criticism of federal immigration operations taking place in Minnesota. The investigation also became controversial after Minnesota investigators said they initially lost access to evidence when the FBI took control of the case. State prosecutors continued seeking evidence and conducting their own review. By July 2026, federal authorities had turned over evidence from the shooting to Minnesota prosecutors, allowing the state investigation to move forward.

No she didn’t. Wheel was turned. She drove by him and he was in no danger as you can clearly see in the video.

Just saw a new photo of the shooting. He shot her in the head through the driver SIDE window from about 2-3 feet away. He was in zero danger and it looks like she was just leaving like he told her to.

They're not an officer until they show their face and ID. Until then they're masked thug and you have a green light to kill.

A 37-year-old woman has been shot in the head while in her car, by an ICE agent in the city of Minneapolis.

The woman was shot as she drove away from officers in a residential area in downtown Minneapolis.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem described the incident as an "act of domestic terrorism" carried out against ICE officers by a woman who "attempted to run them over and rammed them with her vehicle" and that the agent acted in self defence.

But Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey called that "bullshit".

"They are already trying to spin this as an action of self-defence. Having seen the video myself, I wanna tell everybody directly, that is bullshit," he said.

"What they are doing is not to provide safety in America. What they are doing is causing chaos and distrust. They're ripping families apart. They're sowing chaos on our streets, and in this case, quite literally killing people."

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara also spoke to media, and unlike federal officials, gave no indication the woman was trying to harm anyone.

"This woman was in her vehicle and was blocking the roadway on Portland Avenue. At some point a federal law enforcement officer approached her on foot and the vehicle began to drive off." the chief said.
