Collateral damage is part of the risk. Going to a call with an armed criminal will keep any responder on their highest alert.

The perp was warned

Is calling someone a "motherfucker" a good strategy for conflict de-escalation?

Yes, better than getting 15 9mm 124 gr hollow points in your chest.

Re: Officer-involved Fatal Shooting in Downtown Louisville

I always stick up for police BUT this asshole cop wanted to shoot this guy the second he pulled out his gun and was just waiting for a excuse to fire. Not only was it unnecessary but he could have killed his partner.
Is that silver gun on the floor from the perp? If so, cop did what he had to or we will have three shot, 2 cops and one dumbass.

Re: Officer-involved Fatal Shooting in Downtown Louisville

Normally I stick up for the cop but not entirely sure about this one... I'm open to thoughts/observations from both sides.
If the guy was going for a handgun in his waistband, then cop probably did the best thing. You can try to grapple with and/or taze unarmed suspects, and possibly even suspects holding melee weapons, but if the guy has a gun and he is going for it, you don't take any chances. Cop already told the guy what he was gonna do, shoot him if he didn't go down, and the guy didn't listen and thought it would be smart to arm himself for his struggle with the armed cops so he pretty much forced their hands.

The guy with the frying pan, yea that guy probably should have been tackled and not shot. This guy with the gun? You can't fault the cop for doing his job. Any hesitation and it might have been the cop or his cop friend who were dead instead.
