That's exactly my thought. He got thrown off by that failed check, and his instinct was to counter balance. Being an athlete, it would happen by muscle memory alone. He would never even thought about it, it happened too fast. Just a tragic, horrific event.

The word is that he passed away on the ice. They were doing CPR as the gurney came, but he was already dead. His artery must have been terribly mangled to die that quick with medical people right there.
