"Paramedics are now on the ice, players are forming a ring around him and now screens are up around him. Awful scenes here at Sheffield Arena. The period is ended."

I'm hockey illiterate, so this is a genuine question, but what was the guy that collided with him trying to do? It almost looks like an intentional kick. I don't think he was trying to injure him, but wtf was he going for there?
