Re: Cop Charged with Manslaughter After Killing Homeless, Psychotic Man

Making more excuses for black people committing crime. Slavery was 150 years ago. No one today owns slaves in America. Why do we keep going back to that? Jim Crow was 60 years ago and since that time we've created Afirmative Action, we have "black colleges", we have minority owned businesses getting a % of all government business they bid on and we celebrate George Floyd as a hero because he was wrongfully killed by a cop-ask the 13 year old he raped if he's a hero.
Just because things aren't as bad as they used to be doesn't mean that things are necessarily good.

This is not about justifying Floyd's previous criminal actions, but taking a stand against an extrajudicial killing. What Floyd may have done in the past is not relevant to the circumstances of his death, although it certainly informs our perception of him as a person.

If you are as patriotic as you seem to be, you surely value things like due process and a judicial process that doesn't allow a single person to be judge, jury, and executioner.

You seem woefully misinformed about a number of things. It's okay though, many of my (university) students aren't strong enough to do the intellectual heavy lifting required to consider something as contingent, more complicated than a black and white binary.

"Just because things aren't as bad as they used to be doesn't mean that things are necessarily good." This is a statement based on what you've seen from media, period. This is such a small % of the true reality. The fact of the matter is black people have it better now than they've ever had it before. They get priority over white people when getting into college, even with lessor grades and test scores and if you look on LinkedIn, you'll see many black people in prominent positions in large companies.

Floyd's past does come into play because he was committing a crime and did resist arrest when this happened. Certainly that doesn't deserve a death sentence, but again, you put yourself in dangerous situations you should expect bad things could happen. My problem is he's lauded as a hero and he is not. David Dorn was a black police officer who served with distinction for 25 years and was working security when he was shot point blank by another black person during the riots in Portland. He died in the line of duty. No president, no Lebron James or other high level figure attended his funeral. He is one hell of a lot more of a hero that floyd was. Yet zero notariety and this is where BLM loses me. Focus on the criminal and not the upstanding citizen who died protecting others.

"you surely value things like due process and a judicial process that doesn't allow a single person to be judge, jury, and executioner. " I absolutely value this and agree with you. Having said that, let's talk about the intimidation of the jury by black people if they didn't convict Chavin-I already gave you the Maxine Waters quote. Let's talk about letting people in this country illegally that have committed crimes only to be let go and commit murders, let's talk about the Judge in Boston who literally let an illegal with a criminal past go out the back door during their court hearing. Where's that due process?

"You seem woefully misinformed about a number of things." I'm more informed that you think because I actually research things, use common sense and don't regurgitate what I saw on Fox/CNN or what some radical professor has tried to brainwash me with.

On that note, I find there are a lot of radical professors out there espousing various forms of anarchy, communism, socialism, limiting free speech against conservative speakers and that Capitalism is evil. The result is what you see in Portland, WA, CA riots. Very irresponsible and with zero recourse. I'm not saying you are one of those, but saying you are a professor at a university gives you zero credibility with me.

I do appreciate the dialogue though.

Re: Cop Charged with Manslaughter After Killing Homeless, Psychotic Man

It's almost like cops haven't figured out that psychotic homeless people are like those animals that if you corner them....it just makes them more agitated and likely to lash out violently at the persons entrapping them into the corner.

No sense of de-escalation. Literally arrives on the scene and ramps things up even worse.
But the vagrant/psychotic population is the part of society we ignore so who cares right...

So all these cops can't disarm a 90 year old 80 pounds man with just a knife? Woww the way these cops behave in America is amazing. Any third world country police would disarm the guy.

Re: Cop Charged with Manslaughter After Killing Homeless, Psychotic Man

The cop was a asshole he should be charged. I’ve dealt with similar cops while on repossessions. I hope he goes to prison. I know his type. He’s the type of cop that would screw anyone over even his own wife.

Re: Cop Charged with Manslaughter After Killing Homeless, Psychotic Man

People don't seem to grasp the concept of being a police officer so I'll lay it out for you. As an officer of the law you have a duty to protect (not just your life, but the community and the people in it) when an armed suspect, who is showing intent to harm starts running away, you have a duty to stop the threat. If that suspect happens to be armed with a deadly weapon, deadly force is justified. Think if he had run around the corner and stabbed and killed an innocent child.

I'd like to see you disarm a 10yo kid with a knife and not get cut. Easy to say when you've never been in that situation. Not trying to be a dick, but police in the US are trained NOT to try some Bruce Lee shit because real life isn't like the movies, you can't just slap a knife out of someone's hand. Being that well trained in hand to hand combat takes years.
