Re: Breast Cancer Journey

As a physician I interact with a lot of cancer survivors, and while I don’t personally know what you’re going through I have had many patients experience this. It doesn’t matter how many times I see it, it still hits me hard to see what cancer does. Thank you so much for sharing your story. Every person and story is so unique. I truly hope the best for you!

For my own interest as a physician, might I ask a few questions
Any family history? How old are you (if you don’t mind me asking, because you look very young)? Was the lump painful or just something new that you discovered because you happened to feel the area?

I ask because I see many young women who find lumps and nearly every time we investigate they turn out to be fibroadenomas (benign). The more I learn the better I become as a physician. Thank you!

I have a solid family hx of breast cancer. Males and females on both maternal and paternal. I did genetic testing and I am negative for the BRCA gene as is my 1st cousin who is the closest person to be to be diagnosed with breast cancer. I can’t remember if I said it in my post but I have DCIS which they say is non hereditary. I found the lump 25ish days before my 36th birthday. Started Tamoxifen (chemo) and lost my hair 2 days after my birthday. The 1st lump in April, was painful but it was sore. Like aching. It felt different than all my previous lumps. The 2nd mass I didn’t feel, it was found by an MRI in Oct and biopsied using an MRI guide. I was told I probably wouldn’t have felt the 2nd one until it was thru the milk duct bc I had dense fibrous breast tissue.

Re: Breast Cancer Journey

I'm proud of you. So many people go through this, and many of those go through it alone. It's very educational, badass and emotional at the same time that you share your story with us

Re: Breast Cancer Journey

Incredible thread, you are very brave and kind to share your story.
I know we don't like to think about these things, but in reality some of us
will have to face cancer one day. I think the psychological toll is what I fear the most, but im sure the physical is just as bad.
