Re: Ganglion Cyst Drainage
I have a cyst on my head I need removed. Started out the size of a bb many years ago,now its about the size of a small grape. Not looking forward to getting that cut out. But I do want to see what they take out.

Re: Ganglion Cyst Drainage
yup. old timers call them "bible bumps" because it goes that they would use the old family bible (as it was typically the biggest book in the house) and try to flatten them by slamming the book onto the cyst. not really what I recommend my patients try when they see me for these. if they are bothersome and the patient isn't too keen on surgery i recommend trying to aspirate the cyst. i use a 19 gauge needle and a large syringe as you need a decent amount of negative pressure because the stuff inside is THICK! i also let them know there is a very good chance the cyst will recur if they choose that option. surgery is the most definitive way to manage them but even still they can come back after that. most have great luck with surgery though ive seen a few that develop some chronic pain following surgical management, hence my mantra for many of the things people talk to me about: if it doesn't negatively impact your life just leave it alone. |
