Breast Cancer Journey
In April 2020, I found a lump in my right breast. I was sent immediately to get a mammogram and biopsy. I got this and a 3 days later, I heard it was cancer, DCIS stage 1. I started chemo and by the end of April, I was losing my hair. I started pasting out randomly and sleeping 23 hours a day. Chemo kicked my ass. In Oct I had a 6 month MRI to check on the tumor and look for anything else and they found a new one. DCIS stage 0. DCIS stands for ductcal carcinoma in situ meaning it’s in my milk ducts and hasn’t spread. The day I got the new tumor diagnosis, I stopped the chemo and we scheduled a double mastectomy (DMX) with DIEP flap reconstruction with nerve grafting and removed lymph nodes on the right side. Meaning they will take the fat/tissue/nerves from my stomach and use them that to Make new breasts. The nerve graft is still in trial. I have an incision from side to side. They basically did a tummy tuck. I have a new belly button hole. My surgery was 11/18 and was 7.5 hours long. I was discharged on 11/21. On Thanksgiving, I ended up throwing up after I ate. By Sunday 11/29, I wasn’t eating, had chills/fevers/ yucky feeling, hurting bad. So my mom took me back to the ER and as soon as they took my vitals they ran me to the back and started hooking up up to everything. I had cellulitis, MRSA and was septic. I had 2 IVs put in, one blew so they took it out. I did 6 rounds of Vancomycin to treat the MRSA and sepsis. My veins kept blowing so my arms are all bruised up. I was discharged on 12/3. My nipples are deep purple/black and I have no areoles. During the 2nd surgery to clean out the infection they did a skin debridement And a breast lift so when they heal, they will be Normal looking. This is just phase 1, well the original surgery is phase 1. I’m looking at a phase 2 in 4-6 months to liposuction areas that need it and to fill out my breasts to give them more of a round shape. Hopefully without any problems. |

Re: Breast Cancer Journey
What a warrior. They’ve done incredible surgery on you. I can’t believe medicine has carved out that disease and put you through all that reconstruction, and you look so good. Amazing.

Re: Breast Cancer Journey
Breast cancer unfortunately runs in my family. My mom, aunt, and grandmother had it (and kicked its ass!). So I need to be extra aware. I hope you are doing as well as could be expected, you are amazing!! You got this!!
