LAPD Officers Fatally Shoot Suspect Armed With Machete
Los Angeles, California — On July 13, 2025, around 9:10 a.m., Central Patrol Division uniformed officers responded to a radio call of an ADW suspect in the area of South Figueroa Street and West Olympic Boulevard. The comments of the call indicated that a male suspect stopped his vehicle in the middle of the intersection, exited, and was swinging a sword at pedestrians. Upon arrival, officers observed the suspect, later identified as 36-year-old Gurpreet Singh, standing in the intersection holding a machete. Officers gave multiple commands for Singh to drop the weapon; however, he failed to comply. Singh then returned to his vehicle, retrieved a water bottle, and threw it at the officers. He subsequently entered his vehicle and fled southbound on Figueroa Street while waving the machete outside the driver’s side window. Officers initiated a brief vehicle pursuit during which Singh drove erratically and collided with an officer’s vehicle. A short time later, Singh stopped near Figueroa Street and 12th Street, exited his vehicle while still armed with the machete, and charged at the officers, resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS). Singh was struck by gunfire and fell to the pavement. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded and transported Singh to a local hospital for medical treatment. A machete, two feet in length, was recovered at the scene and booked as evidence. No officers or community members were injured during the incident. |

Re: LAPD Officers Fatally Shoot Suspect Armed With Machete
I try to give cops the benefit of the doubt, but didn't it seem like the cops in the initial contact units were afraid of that idiot in flip flops, while sitting in the protection of their vehicles? Instead of fleeing from him, they could have used their vehicles to try to block his access to his car, and avoid the public danger of a vehicle pursuit. They lucked out that the man stopped his vehicle again to /self.

That's because they're taught to escalate, not deescalate. The law protects them and allows them to "restore order" however they deem necessary. The laws are not meant to protect people, they're meant to protect society. Unfortunately for us, the majority of people aren't considered to be a part of society. The majority are only allowed to "exist" within society as a consequence of their servitude to those who are actually a part of society. Cops protect and serve society, not people. Sucks, but I challenge you to prove me wrong. |

those cops were rock hard shooting down mentally ill flip flop man. rubber bullets, tasers, even a net would have given every opportunity to stop him and prevent firing random bullets into the public.

Re: LAPD Officers Fatally Shoot Suspect Armed With Machete
This whole incident was completely unnecessary. When the first cops arrived at the scene the driver could have simply sped up a little and hit him with the car. Just enough to knock the shit out of him would have been enough to end it in a matter of seconds without all the rest of this 5 minutes worth of a shitstorm. |

Right?? Usually the LAPD doesn't have a problem with excessive violence on suspects. Also, that's a Dodge Challenger, one of the most distinctive cars on the road, and these stupid cops think it's a Charger. The caller described it as a Mustang, but I'll let that slide since he was trying to get away from the maniac. |
