Re: Russian Invasion Ukraine Day 45/46 (April 10th and 11th)
Two things to point out. 1. At 1:50 This is from 2014. When UA revolutionary government against their own constitution sent their army to deal with Donbas. This is how people of Donbas met UA tanks. 2. Last tank is actually from here. US vet stole that shit in CA if I’m not mistaken and wrecked some shit before swat took care of him. I’m pretty sure it’s somewhere here on DR website. |

Re: Russian Invasion Ukraine Day 45/46 (April 10th and 11th)
To my knowledge T-90 is basically just Abrams but with a new feature where the tower is remote controlled, so theres less crew inside and no spotter is needed. In other words genuinely more advanced than already a bit old Abrams, but not by much. While reactive armor is impressive, its not always reliable from point blank ranges, such as city fighting. Any guy with an RPG-7 is still a major threat to any tank in an urban landscape. That and the surge of drones and missiles have made tanks increasingly redundant in warfare, which is why most armies favor lighter and faster vehicles these days. The era of impressive and scary metal beasts in battles is coming to an end. Future wars are fought with toy planes. |

I've mentioned the same. You've articulated it better than I ever could have. |

Re: Russian Invasion Ukraine Day 45/46 (April 10th and 11th)
I know you're not a tanker but the T-90 is in no way shape or form anything similar to an M1 Abrams. I could go on for a while why the later T-80 variants (Russian T-80U, T-80UK and the latest Ukrainian variant) are in most ways superior to the T-90A, which to my knowledge is the only T-90 variant we've seen in the Ukraine. T-90A downfalls: - Passive protection system "Shtora" dazzlers are largely obsolete. - Absolutely no ERA (explosive reactive panels) behind the Shtora units. If you're trying to kill a T-90A, aim for these. - Despite it being an "upgrade" from the T-80, it still lacked thermal sights, only having passive infrared sights like un-upgraded T-80's. -Same overall engine as the T-72B (really? - Ammunition carousel still directly under the turret crew. Zero survivability if a single round detonates. Virtually all modern western tanks have a ballistic shield separating crew from stored ammunition, including the M1 Abrams, German Leopard, British Challenger, French Leclerc, etc. The Italian Ariete tank does not, so it sucks. Now the T-90M. It largely fixes these issues but its autoloader still cannot fit the most modern effective ammunition which the T-14 Armata is designed for. Also low production. And Russia is afraid to field the T-14 probably because of very low production levels and it won't survive the top-down rockets the Ukrainians are using. Not saying the American M1 Abrams is invincible, it's not. Several have indeed been destroyed (largely at the hands of shitty Saudi crews). The problem with the T-90A, T90S and its export variants is that it's a Russian design. Crew means nothing to them, let them die, quantity over quality. |
