Re: Moskva Sunk
The explosion pressure waves from the missile strikes and secondary ammo explosions had the potential to kill many sailors. It buckled the ship deck, so imagine what it was like in the interior. Based on the daytime photos, the Russians did have opportunity to offload crew onto their smaller vessels but I kind of doubt they did, seeing that there is no sign of crew rescue ops in the photos. My guess is Moskva was under orders to suppress the fire and be towed to port in tact to save face. Surviving crew was no doubt ordered to stations. The photos show a lateral split in the hull, so it had to be taking a lot of water and breaking further apart with the interior flooding stresses, wave action and towing forces. They probably had all interior hatches sealed to maximize integrity and buoyancy. I expect that caused many drownings from crew on the wrong side of sealed hatches as it took on water. Only 9 minutes elapsed between the SOS call and the ship flopping on its side. The ship was likely written off by command then, and the crew only had 9-minutes to abandon ship. Perhaps the crew started opening up the hatch doors to escape, allowing the water to consolidate, which caused the ship to flop on its side. Once the ship was on its side, it likely took much more water from the topside hull breaches, and swamped the boat drowning the remaining souls. Any sailor who might have escaped with flotation would face a hypothermic end, buffeted around in dark seas. |

Re: Moskva Sunk
From what I could dig out so far only «Marshal Ustinov» had Modernisation of radio electronic weapons systems with replacement of analogue devices with digital ones (the ship received a three-coordinate long-range detection radar "Podberyozovik" and a station "Frigate-M2M" optimised for detecting low-flying targets with phased anten. Have no clue why Moskva didn’t get this update, but terns out it is that important. |

Re: Moskva Sunk
Rightfully so.. Social media has shown the mourning of the ships captain. But... he is magically alive and in the video you're referring to. |

Re: Moskva Sunk
Resurrected in time for Easter! The wonders of the Communist State. The smoking Moskva pictures don't look like I expected. I was envisioning sailors in life jackets, lifeboats and flotsam like Snickers and Mars bar wrappers, used condoms, Marlboro Lights cigarette butts, fuel slick etc. There are no people visible. Maybe the survivors were already rescued when the vid was taken. |

Re: Moskva Sunk
Then I stand corrected.Fair enough. But wow, what a chunk of floating shit. If this was the flagship of the fleet, what does the rest of the floating wrecks look like? |
