Russian flagship Moskva reported sunk 04-14-2022 0300 after hit by 2 Neptune missles fired by Ukraine on 04-13-2022.

There are earlier DR posts on this topic in the "Russian Invasion Ukraine" thread, but think the Moskva deserves its own thread.

Hilariously, on 04-13-2022, Ukrainian Post office reported issued a new stamp featuring a salute to none other than the Moskva.

Sorry, could not locate any burning hulk pics. Who knows, maybe the Turkish sailors will post something.

Reports from Turkish news describe the final hours of the Moskva:
04-14-2022 at 0105 sent out an SOS.
At 0114 she rolled on her side and at 0145 lost all electric power.
At 0200 a Turkish ship lay alongside and started evacuating sailors from the hull and the water, rescuing a total of 54 men.
At 0300 she is reported to have sunk. Rescue operations continued.
Total reported number of crew is 510.

Other reports and rumors:

1. USAF KC135 spotted loitering over the extreme east of Romania 04-14-2022 0400-0500. Perhaps supporting whatever is trying to take a pic of the Moskva or the smoking patch of ocean where it sank.
2. Was also a NATO E3 same place around the time of the strike, theoretically could have had range to supply targetting data, but if they baited it with a TB2 NATO could keep its hands clean.
3. The latest rumors coming from the russian side is that Moskva's systems were jammed by F-18G's but still managed to intercept 4 or the 6 neptunes incoming. Personally think its BS because it would be provocative from the US and NATO to do that. The other slightly related rumor is that a C-40 clipper landed in odessa a few days ago under heavy electronic interference (F-18G's ?). It unloaded penguin mk2's then took off.

I've heard conflicting information about the value of Moskva:

1. Russian sources and Ukrainian propaganda seem to agree with the flagship Moskva being a modern (ie. modernized) ship with a top-notch (by a Russian standard) equipment, technology, and stuff.

2. The other sources claim that the Moskva flagship was obsolete. It's been never modernized. It's been only renovated by Ukrainian subcontractors who decided to remove some of its equipment when Russia decided not to pay the full price for the renovation (and supposedly this lacking equipment has never been restored). Moreover, its defense system was so obsolete that long-range defense was able to track around 8 targets while mid- and short-range defense systems were unusable under the conditions when the ship got hit.

It was built in the 70s and is hardly state-of-the-art. While updates have been made to it, you can't make an old ship as capable as a new ship at a reasonable expense.

The Black Sea fleet has more modern ships of similar type which are much more capable. The only reason Moskva (used to be known as Slava, lead ship of its class) would be the flagship is because of history and tradition.
