Re: Moskva Sunk

Yeah, I'm concluding the earlier released timelines are incorrect. The one with the Lithuanian defense minister Arvydas Anušauskas saying there was a distress call detected by the Turks at 2am and Moskva sunk at 3am.

I believe the severely damaged ship in the photos/short video is the Moskva, in a heavy list, taking on a lot of water before sinking. It was struck by anti-ship missiles, "survived" the night and sank the next day, likely in the early morning.

Two potential rocket impacts are visible, closer to the missile tubes partially obscured by smoke. I found no evidence of other Atlant or Slava-class ships being damaged in the past and this is just photos of that event.

I'm very skeptical of the video of the survived crew in uniform with an Admiral. I think that's just bullshit Kremlin damage control.

Re: Moskva Sunk

As much as I'd like to see pics of the damaged/sinking Moskva, the major point to bring up here are the reports that it was hit around 1:14am local time (or sent its SOS) and sunk not long thereafter. These photos are clearly daytime, but the pictured ship is the same class as the Moskva.

Question #1: Was the 1:14am timeframe incorrect? Error in reporting? Did this originally come from Turkish sources?

Question #5: Is it possible the Moskva was hit, (or no hit, ammunition exploded following a fire) survived the night, then sank during the daytime the following day, explaining these pictures?
I constructed the following event timeline based on my understanding of the reliable info so far.

13Apr22 daytime hours: Two R-360 Neptune anti-ship cruise missiles hit Moskva

13Apr daytime hours: Other Russian ships approach the burning Moskva, take leaked photos, attempt towing and fire suppression operations, split and buckling in hull of Moskva is photographed indicating structural failure

13Apr 2000 hours: Ukrainian presidential adviser Oleksiy Arestovych and Odesa governor Maksym Marchenko tweeted that their forces hit Moskva with the Neptune missiles.

14Apr 0105 hours, Moskva sent out an SOS

14Apr 0114 hours, (Turk ship observes) Moskva lay on its side

14Apr 0144 hours, all the electricity went out

14Apr 0200 hours, Turk ship evacuated 54 sailors from Moskva

14Apr 0300 hours, Moskva had completely sunk

Re: Moskva Sunk

It’s hard to believe that ship like that didn’t have a proper Air Defence system.
There are two earlier posts that can explain the air defense issue:

Sources claim that the Moskva flagship was obsolete. It's been never modernized. It's been only renovated by Ukrainian subcontractors who decided to remove some of its equipment when Russia decided not to pay the full price for the renovation (and supposedly this lacking equipment has never been restored). Moreover, its defense system was so obsolete that long-range defense was able to track around 8 targets while mid- and short-range defense systems were unusable under the conditions when the ship got hit.
The Moskva had a single main air defence radar, a 3P41 Volna phased array to guide S300 missiles. Problem is, it only has a 180 degree field of vision.
360 degree coverage is provided by MR-800 Voshkod/Top Pair 3-D long range air search radars for shorter-range SA-8 missiles. But it's likely that in the storm, they couldn't distinguish the sea-skimming Neptunes from the wavetops.
The Ukrainians purposefully got the Moskva to point its best radar in the wrong direction by distracting it using a Bayraktar TB-2 drone while the Neptunes sneaked under the coverage of the other radars.
