An East Feliciana Parish couple allowed their daughter to succumb in her own ferment, sitting on a couch for an estimate of twelve years before she finally passed away around 1/3/22.

Her birthday was 11/15/85, she was 36. Her name was Lacey Ellen Fletcher. Her parents are Clay and Sheila. She was the only child.

The girl’s mother had contacted the authorities that day and reported that her daughter had stopped breathing, it was determined that she had died 24 to 48 hours prior.

Her emaciated body was found partially naked, sitting upright and partly submerged in a hole in a couch covered from head to toe in urine, liquid feces, maggots and insect bites at her parents' otherwise neat single family home in Slaughter, Louisiana.

Her feet were crossed underneath her on the couch deep inside the hole that her long-suffering body had worn through both the upholstery and cushion.
Lacey had fecal matter shoved on her face, chest and abdomen.

Her hair was matted, knotted and filled with maggots – and she weighed less than 100lbs. She had bedsores that went all the way down to the bone.

The coroner has ruled the death as severe medical neglect, which led to chronic malnutrition, acute starvation, immobility, acute ulcer formation, osteomyelitis, which is bone infection which led finally to sepsis,

The Fletchers reportedly said Lacey developed 'some degree of Asperger's syndrome or autism' after 9th grade when she started being home schooled.

They insisted during an interview with law enforcement that she was the one who chose never to leave the couch and to relieve herself there or on a nearby towel. Sheila Fletcher said she routinely cleaned her daughter's sores.

The family visited a doctor to address Lacey’s very increasingly reclusive lifestyle around this time, but there were no follow through efforts to adjust her behavior. Later in 2010 the family made an appointment with a doctor again, and lamented their daughter's reclusive behavior but still nothing was done.

It’s apparent that her parents gave up on her after this and allowed her to suffer in the same position for roughly a decade until her death in this year.

Neighbors the WBRZ Investigative Unit spoke to did not even know Lacey had died until we told them.

"I asked him one day a couple of years ago because I hadn't seen her," Robert Blades said. "Yeah, she still stays here."

Blades said he used to see Lacey outside, but that stopped about five or six years ago. Blades was in disbelief that her parents could have kept such an awful secret.

"They go to church every weekend... and do anything for anybody," Blades said.

Even after all this ‘Mom and Dad love you so much’ is what Shelia wrote in a Facebook post after her death despite the needless suffering in vain that her daughter endured; whenever she could have been treated and her life become restored to it’s former value.

Many people have similar mental health conditions to Lacey and with a caring support system and regular visits to a primary care physician or psychologist issues like hers could have been worked through.

Whilst it isn’t known whether she received any diagnosis at some point it isn’t believed that her condition left her in a mind debilitating state.


Clearly her parents did not see any abject value in saving her or improving her life and they were never fit for the role of being parental figures or caregivers – which they did not even have to be.

Lacey is remembered for having liked sports, bowling, Disney world, and being with people much in far contrast to the detrimented state she would end up in.

He would not release them for publication, however. Nearly all were unpublishable due to their horrifying, graphic content.

In them, Lacey appears almost buried up to her shoulders in the wide and deep hole in the sofa that her bony body has worn over the years, rubbing away the cushioning.

She is slumped over on her left side with her right arm across the top half of her emaciated body near her neck.

She is naked apart from a small blue patterned t-shirt, which is pulled up on her chest and does not cover her breasts.

Her eyes are wide open, staring.

Her mouth is also open, revealing what appears to be a full set of front teeth.

Her legs are pulled up and crossed underneath her, ironically in a way that people can make themselves comfortable. But in Lacey's case it was a posture of a bid to survive.

Her face is covered in large and angry red blotches. Excrement is smeared over almost all her body. It is matted in her hair. It is even inside her ears.

The brown leather sofa that served as her prison is alongside a wall, with a gap of about 18 inches.

Astonishingly, to the couch's right side is a gray commode and a neat pile of clothes.

And to the front, only a few feet away, is a cluttered low black table.

It is strewn with lotion bottles, some talcum powder, a pack of wipes, a nasal spray, a box with a lid that had a child's photo on it, and other items that make it appear the Fletchers had the resources to clean their stricken only child.

Between the sofa and table are two neatly stacked boxes of DVDs. It is not possible to discern the titles, but some appeared to be child-like from the covers.

Desperately sad photos of Lacey taken later on a physician's steel table for a forensic examination further reveal the extent of her harrowing and so far unexplained ordeal.

She weighed just 96lbs when discovered dead in the early hours of January 3.

Close-ups show the flesh on her buttocks appears to be literally worn or eaten away from the 12 years that she hadn't moved from the couch.

There are large raw yellow areas where the skin has disappeared. Other back and buttock areas are so blackened it is impossible for a lay person to identify any shape or form.

unless it’s her actual corpse I don’t care too see any more images of this case. it’s putrid and foul i was debating even including the one photo in my original post. i just want to know why this abominable crime took place, why her parents didn’t care, and what led Lacey too stop caring for herself, i’m very angry at her parents and hopefully more info comes about the case when it goes to court + i hope they get life in prison , it’s what they deserve in the least ;

they destroyed their own daughters life. It would have better if they had straight up murdered her then to let her fester in her own filth. I don’t care what they say it’s common sense you don’t allow someone to suffer incessantly.

jesus bugfucking christ this one is gonna haunt me. why. just Why. the smell had to be fucking insane. i can't FATHOM how that could go on for hours much less years. both parents deserve to be chucked in septic tanks and left there to really savor their inherent lack of humanity.
