Re: Haiti Earthquake
Wow It really is amazing how helpful other countries are to help out another country after catastrophe. Thank you for noting the facts figures. Although it is true that if this happened to US, Haiti would not be able to help US out like that, we cannot expect a struggling poor country to be able to match the helpfulness other countries are showing them-----they simply don't have the resources. Catastrophic emergencies like this are not of the individual citizen's own doing, and it's horrible to imagine a country already withered by decade after decade of poverty and violence having to endure this now, as well. Imagine being yourself being a poor family and going through this on an individual scale. I read some individual personal Haitian's stories & reports in the news. To read their laments on one-by-one basis is heartbreaking. It's a lot different than just seeing a photo of a mass burial. Compassion is what sets humans apart from animals. If we can, we should donate. Even if everyone donated ONE dollar, imagine how that would add up. Imagine it was YOU under the rubble, smelling your dead child, wife, husband, or sibling rotting next to you as you slowly die....or, perhaps being rescued only to have to lay out in the sun with maggot infested wounds for a week until you die anyway because the waiting list to see a Doctor is 12 days. Imagine if everyone gave even just ONE dollar, perhaps not buying coffee that morning, or smoked just 5 less cigarettes in a day, rented one less movie this week, etc...what a difference it could make. Yeah, our state or nation may terribly indebted, or even be teetering on bankruptcy, but there is NO comparision to the horrible destitution that these people are enduring. |

Re: Haiti Earthquake
I again agree with John224. We have given money as well as a vast amount of resources. Let the other countries step up too. We give until it hurts and we still have struggling families that can't feed their kids, in spite of busting their asses- in OUR OWN COUNTRY. |
