Re: Haiti Earthquake

And why is the USNS Comfort not being readied for deployment to Haiti?

The US is the richest, most powerful country in the world. Sure, we can send money and troops to help out Haiti. But we could... and arguably should do more.

As Bill Clinton said, when it comes to winning over the international public opinion, "People the world over have always been more impressed by the power of our example than by the example of our power."

Re: Haiti Earthquake

Actually... just did some research, and USNS Comfort is being mobilized. This makes me happy. Now then American public needs to do more.

Our GDP is $14 TRILLION. $100 million is .0006% of our GDP. It sounds like a lot of money, but out of our pockets, it's literally pocket change.

I agree, but, I don't imagine Haiti giving a damn if there was an earthquake in the United States.

Re: Haiti Earthquake

Brazil's giving $15 million, plus naval support vessels and a shit-ton of food. Australia is giving $10 million. Canada is giving up front $5 million, and promising to match private donations up to $100 million. This means arguably Canada could out-do the US in assistance to Haiti.

Re: Haiti Earthquake

In the last 5 years USA has given Haiti 1 billion dollars in Aid, besides what was mentioned by Den777 the American Red Cross is going, and has received over 4 million in private donations in 48 hours. Police and fire departments nation wide have sent search and rescue teams. All heavy equipment is being supplied. Many USA utility companies as well as Army core of engineers. Not even knowing how many private US companies and churches are helping. Its crazy how much America does! This is exactly why USA is the only world power. At the same time Haiti is so crooked we should topple there goverment too and build them a couple Sandles resorts
