You have to remember some things about Canada that you do not know! 1-Canada has a small population 30 million at last count but falling! 2-Canada has a rising population of native indians who do not pay tax, but get free medical, school (which includes books, transportation, pens, pencils, etc), free university (which includes meals and accomidations), dental care, vision, plus other added stuff which costs the Canadian taxpayers billions of dollars a year! 3-A governor general in Ottawa (Canada's national capital) but also a governor general in each province who also take a lot of money out of the national trough! That makes 11 governor generals in all! 4-If a land claim with one of the indian bands comes up, the Canadian taxpayer is again on the hook for more millions. It's amazing Canada has not tanked already!  |

I'm not saying the US hasn't done great things in helping Haiti. The US military mobilized quickly (though they should have, given the proximity). We aren't doing anything wrong. But we could be doing more. And yes, niknik, being the "most powerful country" means more than just going in and blowing up things that need blowing up. It means being gracious and merciful when other countries need a helping hand. It made my friend violently angry that, after Katrina and Rita, in 2005, there wasn't more assistance by the US military in the region. Figure there were half a million soldiers on government payroll who could have been called up to dig through rubble, search for survivors, get on boats and rescue people, deliver fresh water, dispense food, build emergency tents for shelter... People assume that the military has only one skill-set: waging war. But this is not true. |

I agree about Katrina that was just dumb. Some people in goverment must of been on vacation or something. It took to long but they did eventually go in a got everybody out. It didn't help that no private companies or even the American Red Cross wanted to go in without a army to protect them.

Sorry, just not used to Americans talking up the land of no guns and unlocked doors. Yeah, its really like that here. And Bill Clinton has to say something to make up for that "rwanda thing" he felt so bad about |

We could be doing more eh? They have done nothing to better themselves with previous help given. Why should we do more now? Oh and try not to respond like a hot headed uncivilized jackass this time. Its not hard to disagree in a civilized manner.
