Re: WASHINGTON D.C. | Commercial Jet vs Military Helicopter Over Potomac

Nah, it all goes back to obama in 2008. He spearheaded DEI. I got receipts.

On April 11, 2019 Trump's FAA launched a pilot program to hire and train PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED individuals as ATC workers. This was primarily aimed at experienced vets who came home from war with missing appendages but other civilians were welcome to apply.

If you read the targeted disabilities list provided at the time, there is absolutely no mention of sex, race, gender, mental impairment, or psychological issues. You can see the qualifications in this image...
Who is talking about race, sex or any of that shit? Do you not know what aspect of DEI trump is targetting? He was complaining that disabled people shouldn't be in aviation.

"and specifically recruiting individuals with “severe intellectual” disabilities in the FAA. "

Those are his words. And his 2019 program started this. Lmao. Go ahead and provide that list by the way. I found your source and clicked it. Trump had it removed. Lmao.

This is the tik tok ban thing again. He started it. Now he is "ending" it to get credit lmao

Re: WASHINGTON D.C. | Commercial Jet vs Military Helicopter Over Potomac

There's an incredible amount of helicopter traffic in New York City as well it's just not as obvious because it goes around Manhattan and the nature of the city with the tall buildings it's harder to see things. Washington is a much more spread out city with wide open vistas so you see the helicopters more.
While I was in DC I heard helicopters all the time, but it was mostly police helicopters not Blackhawks or bigger ones

Re: WASHINGTON D.C. | Commercial Jet vs Military Helicopter Over Potomac

CBS News has identified four other close calls between helicopters and planes around the airport, including a 2018 incident where a pilot took last-second evasive maneuvers to avoid an FAA plane landing on the same runway on which the aircraft from Wichita was cleared to land.

In the previously unreported case, an air traffic controller failed to warn both the aircraft.

Just one day before the deadly collision, another regional jet about to land at the Reagan National Airport had a close call with a helicopter.

A regional Republic Airways flight came into close contact with Priority Air Transport 11, another Army helicopter flight, according to the NTSB. The plane's pilots received an alert from the onboard collision avoidance system about the military helicopter and aborted the landing attempt, CBS News correspondent Kris Van Cleave reported.

NTSB board member Todd Inman addressed the close call on Saturday, saying that the aircraft had over 1,000 feet of separation between them, which is a "good safety barrier."

"Obviously, the pilot made its own decision in rejecting the landing," Inman said. "We just want to bring that fact out. It will be considered in the overall evaluation of this incident."

Investigators are still working to interview all the controllers — including an operational supervisor and an operational supervisor in training who were in the tower at the time of the collision.

A controller who handles helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft, another who handles departures and arrivals, a ground controller and a local assist controller have all been interviewed.

Re: WASHINGTON D.C. | Commercial Jet vs Military Helicopter Over Potomac

once the helicopter pilot was given Visual Flight Rules, it was his job and responsibility to create the separation. unfortunately he didnt create that and ultimately caused the crash.

Crazy stuff- A couple of airport employees have been arrested for copying and distributing crash footage from the airport cameras.

While justified in theory, IMO it was a mistake for authorities to do this. It creates an impression that things are being covered up. (I don't think anything is being covered up, but in current times where conspiracy theories seem more popular than facts - why feed the trolls?)

And the video would probably have been released almost immeditely anyway. NTSB was extremely quick to release factual information such as a summary of CRJ CVR, not even waiting for the 30 day interim report.

Spread out vistas? Have you ever been to DC?

Yeah like on the National Mall or around the Lincoln Memorial or Jefferson Memorial ofr the capitol steps or Arl8ngron Cemetery. There's lots of views. It's not like being in Montana Big Sky country but compared to New York there's some pretty good views
Have you ever been to New York City

Re: WASHINGTON D.C. | Commercial Jet vs Military Helicopter Over Potomac

Is it possible that they had the another plane in view and assumed that was the only one?
