Re: NewCal Aviation de Havilland Canada DHC-4 Caribou Crashes in Test Flight

Years ago when I first saw this I read that the pilot was the prime cause. He was known by other pilots that he regularly didn't follow the rules of good practice, esp. during take of and landing using daring techniques.
"With the exception of a slightly higher-than-normal nose attitude at lift-off, the aircraft's initial climb appeared normal.

"Slightly-higher-than-normal nose attitude at lift-off" can easily lead to catastrophic kiting and exactly what we see that happened in the video.

Pretty much flew like one of those Styrofoam planes that always break on the first flight from a loop that usually hits you in the back of the head.

Re: NewCal Aviation de Havilland Canada DHC-4 Caribou Crashes in Test Flight

A gust lock on an aircraft is a mechanism that locks control surfaces in place preventing random movement and possible damage of the surface from wind while parked. Gust locks may be internal or external.

A gust lock can pose a serious safety hazard if its removal is omitted before an aircraft's takeoff because it renders the flight control inoperative.

For this reason, gust lock disengagement is a very important step on the takeoff checklist for those aircraft equipped with gust locks.

Don't worry, be happy. Besides if it does happen, you're dead. yipeeeeee.

That's exactly what happen. The pilot failed to check this off his list before take off and as a result, didn't have control of the aircraft and came crashing down. Again, fucking pilot error with fatal results. It's like being in the back seat of a car with the driver attempting to overtake a semi 18 wheeler but fails to check for oncoming traffic. Bam! Head on collision killing all passengers. That would keep me from ever driving or riding in the back seat of a friends car. Just saying....

He was swinging back to the airport real quick to get his cell phone , and no , a human can't survive diving into the ground and 100 mph and bursting into flames and burning for 20 minutes

Re: NewCal Aviation de Havilland Canada DHC-4 Caribou Crashes in Test Flight

I thought it might be the load in the plane wasn't strapped in tight and it shifted as the plane got airborne.
