I have smuggled contraband through airports on many occassions, and continue to do so. I have built up a very good understanding of how airport security works over the last 20 years, and fortunately I have never been caught.
However this is the part that worries me - I am a small-time hashish smuggler. I move quantities usually between 100 and 500 grams when I am travelling by plane. I go through some of the tightest security checks in the world, at the airports I frequent. I am body-scanned, physically searched and all my belongings are X-Ray Scanned, yet the method I have found is virtually undetectable, and it does not involve hiding the contraband internally. Hashish is of similar consistency to many types of explosive material yet I can continue my trade without fear of being caught. I could easily take a bomb onto a plane if I wanted. Obviously I would never do that, but it worries me that the terrorists can also become adept at evading security if they use some intelligent thought-process.
The airports know where their weak-spots are but to correct this would mean the security checks need to be tripled in intensity, and that costs too much money to make air travel viable for the masses.

exactly why "profiling" is absolutely necessary. anyone with any middle east or islamic ties must be put under a magnifying glass; tough shit if they are innocent.

As long as you stick with hash and not explosives

I can certainly imagine many people know how to slip beneath the radar in airports, etc.

So I was watching an episode of Mayday at work this week and one of my co-workers came into the office. Said he was flying from Brussels to New York and was supposed to be on this flight. The Brussels plane was running so late he missed the flight. Was extremely pissed about it until he found out the next day what happened.

He's dead and he didn't do it. He was released because his appeal was going to be heard and so they released him rather than admit they had the wrong guy, admit he was set up and "upset the applecart.".
Part of the timing circuit comprised of a part only used by agencies in the U.S.
There is a very good documentary featuring his lawyer, who is still trying to clear his name.
