Re: Notre Dame Hospital, Biddeford Maine

In fact, it has been estimated that, once humans make themselves extinct, nature will require a mere 10,000 years to obliterate all things made-made, save for all things nuclear.
And that's a very conservative estimate! Tropical climates can reclaim within decades.

I've only observed a full-boy apparition once, but that's another story.
Would like to hear this story. Details!

Re: Notre Dame Hospital, Biddeford Maine

How come it hasn't been torn down after all this time?
Politics. At least ours of one, it lies in the middle of a middle-class neighborhood. So nobody wants it to become low-rent housing, or a parking lot for that matter. And the place is filled with black-mold and other problems; (believe-you-me, I helped scavenge the place long before this current state of rot.)

It took a big-assed government grant to get the gas to flatten the place. It's not quite a "superfund" problem, but there's a lot of shit that makes private-sector shy away from recovering this rust-belt money-pit. But at least our gubmint is recovering useless properties like this and not fixing our roads/bridges, right?
