Re: Vic Morrow's Death on The Set Of The Twilight Zone
Doesn't the crew check weather patterns before filming? Morrow was having a tough time fighting the wind and carrying two children as it was. Horrible disaster! A waste of three lives! Morrow is also the father or Rob. An earlier post mentioned an actress. |

Re: Vic Morrow's Death on The Set Of The Twilight Zone
It wasn't the weather he was fighting, actually, it was the wash from the helicopter and splash from the oversized explosions. The explosions themselves were the cause of the helicopter losing control. Landis was told all about the risks that the pyrotechnics could cause to the helicopter's flight safety, but just didn't give a shit.

Re: Vic Morrow's Death on The Set Of The Twilight Zone
Since this is posted all the time without any other details, I'll add some for you guys. I read all this in the book "Special Effects: Disaster at Twilight Zone" by Rob LaBrecque. Two things caused the helicopter to malfunction: The fact that the director ordered it to fly lower than rehearsed, and two erroneously triggered explosions. The explosions were timed too closely together, causing a buildup of unlit gasoline to fly into the air, damaging the tail rotor and well, you saw the video. Everyone except the Director Jon Landis, Vic Morrow and the kids ran for the hills. The director was so focused on Vic that he said "What the fuck is this helicopter doing in my shot?". Vic's situation was shitty from the start, look at all the rotor splash and how deep the water was. I'm sure he had no idea what was about to happen. The rotor completely severed the heads of Vic and one of the kids, the other kid was crushed. The occupants of the helicopter only had superficial wounds. The first person to try and help found only Vic's torso. Shortly after they found his and the kid's head and hid them in plastic wrap as "an act of decency". During the whole ordeal there were only two sounds: a high-pitch whining from the helicopter and the frantic screaming of Shyan Chen, the mother of both kids. |
