Re: Pictures From The Diane Schuler Taconic Parkway Crash
The documentary is EXCELLENT. My take is that she had a psychotic break because of 1) drug/alcohol abuse and 2) trying to be the perfect mom/wife for so many years. Overachieving and having to take care of a very helpless and selfish husband.

The reason it doesn't look much like her is because her nose, upper, and lower jaw are broken. Her chest is also split open. Tox report says she was wasted. Weird story

Re: Pictures From The Diane Schuler Taconic Parkway Crash
That was a very well made documentary. .. one of the best of the genre. It is haunting. "There's Something Wrong With Aunt Diane." The title alone gives me chills. And though I understand the husband's steadfast refusal to publicly accept his wife's marijuana or alcohol use, his defiance still irritated me. Multiple toxicology reports were performed. There was no reason for any official to lie, and there was no "tainting" of the cultures. It was a very bizarre incident that stole a lot of innocent lives. And while a husband or family member does not owe the world an apology for the tragic actions of the inebriated person behind the wheel, it doesn't help anyone to blame everyone but her for what happened.

Re: Pictures From The Diane Schuler Taconic Parkway Crash
Her husband's denial annoyed the hell out of me as well. What could possibly be the motive for officials to falsify the toxicology report?!?! And I honestly don't think she was a bad person or a bad Mom but that's irrelevant because when the dead speak through science it tells us without discrepancy what really happened and science told us that she was shit faced drunk. That may have been out of character for her but that doesn't mean anything when the facts start rolling in. |

I remember watching this documentary. The husband is a helpless, lazy, asshole. I feel bad for the little boy and the family being sued.

Re: Pictures From The Diane Schuler Taconic Parkway Crash
I get the feeling that many people are pointing fingers at the husband because it is the easiest thing to believe. I first watched the documentary in 2014 and until now I have watched it 3 times (last time was 3 days ago). My initial suspicion is the same as now - that there was something medical involved. Due to a neurological condition that I have, I have suffered trigeminal neuralgia (TN) twice in my life and it will not show up on a toxicology report or investigation. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trigeminal_neuralgia). The pain of TN is massively unbearable. I have felt that this is what Diane may have suffered. That she tried to buy meds and when that failed she tried alcohol to numb the pain, which worked intermittently and therefore she had a swig every time the pain came up (which could be every few minutes or so). When the alcohol lost its effect she turned to weed to numb the pain. Unfortunately by that time the alcohol she had consumed was too much and the mixing with marijuana is what caused her judgement to be completely impaired. For anyone to say, why didnt she go to another place to buy meds, I would tell you that the pain of TN can throw your senses completely off-balance. I do not believe she was a closet alcoholic as she would probably have had a bottle somewhere at work (which hasnt been mentioned anywhere) [Incidentally not much seems to have been said about her colleagues at work, and how well they knew her]. She was said to be driving eratically and extremely close to other cars - my take on this is that she had promised Jackie Hance that she would have the girls back home in time. But her judgement was impaired by this time so all she could do was honk, swerve, overtake, to get home in time. About the driving "dead pin straight" - she knew she had drunk too much and she couldnt afford to make a mistake so this is the best thing she thought to do to get home as quick as possible (I think), except that she entered the Taconic through the wrong side and could not judge whether other cars were coming towards her or driving with her. For other drivers to state that "her eyes didnt even move" - I humbly do not think it is possible to notice that without yourself nearly having an accident. There are inconsistencies though - we are told that Bryan was found in the car under the other bodies (God bless their souls) however Jay Schuler quotes Bryan as saying he "flew out of the car like superman". But I also want to know that through a court order, is it not possible to get a transcript of a phone call? The one where Diane spoke to her brother, and the other unknown calls made. I do not believe in the suicide theory unless in the following situation: Daniel was having an affair, Diane just found out about it, which brought the painful memories of her mother leaving, and which threw her over the edge. But I do not believe this for the following reason: she would have snapped at the campsite and not done the whole McDonalds and filling petrol. Or maybe she wanted to give the kids a last favourite meal and make sure the car would burn when she crashes the car (hence full tank of petrol). But then an affair would have had to involve one of the Hance's if she decided to teach them a lesson and take their kids away for good. But then again the Hance's were family so I do not subscribe to the affair theory leading to this incident. Did she leave her phone on the Jersey divider on purpose? I dont believe so. I am more inclined to believe that she put the phone down, she was well on her way to being intoxicated, and just didnt pick up the phone (forgot; didnt realize she left it there;...could be anything). Its sad that with the results of the toxicology, many assumed or even concluded that she was an alcoholic or a closet alcoholic. But a point to ponder - lets say you were the husband, you knew your wife drinks a little here and there, she smokes weed every now and then, BUT now this horrible tragedy happens and you really had no answers for this incident - so apart from defending the dignity of your wife, what else is there to say? What else *can* you say? Yes she had all that alcohol and THC in her system. But I do not think it is enough, or even fair, to brand her a (closet) alcoholic because of the alcohol in her system or the bottle in the car. In short, I think it was bad judgement leading to a totally uncontrollable situation that took control of her. Sorry for the long post. |
