Re: The Last Known Pictures of Robin Williams
You don't know what you're talking about. On the first point, "classic case of someone living beyond their means" that's bollocks...the cause of any financial distress would have been TWO very expensive divorces, not living beyond his means...if living beyond ones means always leads to suicide, then, Nicholas Cage should have offed himself years ago... On the second point Since Mrs. Doubtfire, Williams had appeared in more than 50 other movies including Good Will Hunting and many other productions, but there had been 'talk' as well as work on a sequel since 2001... On the last point, you're right that he might still be alive if his show hadn't gotten cancelled, but not because of the financial rewards (his per show salary was just $165k, compared to the cool $1,000,000 each of the cast of the Big Bang Theory gets and nothing compared to what Williams would get for a single movie), but because it would have given him more structure and purpose. The cancellation of the show probably made him feel even more like a failure. |

Re: The Last Known Pictures of Robin Williams
Preparing for divorce is part of life, especially in the US and especially if you are a celebrity. No Prenuptial agreement (in california) = 50/50 split of all $ earned while married (1989-2010), which surely was a a huge blow to him when he got divorced for the 2nd time. I think he was stupid for not having a prenuptial agreement for his 2nd marriage, mostly since he married his son's nanny who was already pregnant with his 2nd child. They got married after she was pregnant. Obviously it wasn't an ideal situation for a marriage, even more of a reason to have a prenuptial agreement. He built a 20000 square foot house on a 650 acre property in 2003. It also had a 3500 square foot guest house. I don't think he was wealthy enough to own a property like this. It was originally listed for $35,000,000 in 2013 but dropped to $30,000,000 2 weeks before his CBS show was cancelled (he surely had advanced notice of this). That's a massive drop and a sure sign of a fire sale (i've gatta unload this) type behavior. Sure it was an extremely nice property but I still think he was way in over his head with it. Think about how much it costs to maintain a property like that. He also said in interviews around 2011-2013 that he had to go back to work to support himself. So it wasn't like this just happened to be the time to talk about sequels to successful movies he was in, he just really needed the $. Nicolas Cage is an entirely different story. His real name is Nicolas Coppola and his Uncle is a very wealthy producer Frances Ford Coppola. Robin Williams doesn't have family members worth hundreds of millions of dollars. |

Re: The Last Known Pictures of Robin Williams
First off, you've offered nothing besides conjecture to support the notion that he killed himself over money woes and to suggest that Cage's family would float him money given his wild spending habits is almost as nonsensical. And while it may be true that Williams career arc was on the downturn, it hardly means he was broke. His estimated net worth was still in excess of $130 million, even after two divorces. Finally, no, you don't get advance notice from the network that your series will be cancelled, but it doesn't take a lot of work to connect the dots when your overnights drop and Neilsons are bad... |

Re: The Last Known Pictures of Robin Williams
suicide isn't selfish. Being depressive I have often wanted to kill myself because there is no use for me and I am only causing people harm by being alive. If I were dead then no one would worry about me and I wouldn't upset them anymore. |

Re: The Last Known Pictures of Robin Williams
No, I didn't "cut" his show, but I've worked in more than enough TV production to know his it goes down. It's not like the old days when you'd at least get 13-26 weeks to 'find' an audience, these days if you don't click quickly you get the axe sometime after as few as 3 or 4 shows if your audience doesn't build. Not conjecture OR hypocritical, but I couldn't really give a fuck what you think...
