I saw that 2nd picture once, I can agree. It was real bad, like brain matter and clotted blood in a pile. When I saw this, I expected to see that pic again.

Actually, he didn't hit the wall at 180 mph. The car was moving towards the wall and moving sideways at an angle to the track. Most of his car's speed was at the angle to the track the track and that speed was not a contributing factor to his fatal injuries. According to the NASCAR Official Report the impact with the wall resulted in a 42 - 44 mph change in the speed of his car towards the wall. His car was still traveling at an angle to the track at about 158 to 161 mph. The left lap belt failure was due to installation of the lap belt that was not down according to the seat belt makers installation instructions. Earnhart's lap belt anchors were 7 1/2 inches further back than the seat belt makers installation instructions dictated. Dale Earnhardt was also known to loosen his shoulder belts the last few laps of a race. Dale Earnhart was not an educated man. He stopped going to school in the 9th grade. His fatal head injuries resulted when his upper body and head rebounded after impacting the wall. His helmet slid forward and rotated to the right in the impact exposing the lower part of the back of his skull which hit the back side of the steering wheel causing the ring skull fracture that resulted in exsanguination (massive blood loss - 1/2 to 2/3 of a person's blood) in a minute or so. |

A friend of mine was one of the paramedics and she said that there was nothing they could do once they arrived on scene. He was already gone. The paramedics actually got death threats for not saving him. It lasted for years. She now works at a different track in another city.

he wasnt intimidating,he was in fact a thug,anyone,including myself,can run up behind a guy and ,,ahem,,move him...pfffffffffffft he just wrecked them..same as DW..and many others..but its NOT intimidating to a drive who can pass cleanly and win.Mark Martin was never bothered by the 3,because dale knew if he wrecked mark..he would need to beat mark cleanly the next one a mark would blow his doors off.i myself raced along while,even got a call from Junie Donlavey and im on the west coast..that was a BIG thing in the 80s..i turned it down for a sprint car ride in Australia ...that didnt pan out though damn it....
