Walter Cronkite was on TV every night telling us how the Vietnam War was a lost cause. There was another 1970s sitcom show, MASH, where Alan Alda played a drunken liberal lout in the Korean War who would tell all the jokes. The more patriotic characters (Frank and 'Hot Lips') were made to look like complete stupid assholes in every episode, just like the Nazis Col. Klink and Sgt. (I know No-think!)
