Good post! I posted about 2 years ago or so on the autopsy by Bass. What the narrative doesn't mention is that the son was all out to profit from this. This was less about meeting his dad and all that bonding sniff, but to make a buck. The entire exhumation, opening, and examination was visually documented by videographers and most likely still photography. In an article that I read, he planned to make it available for professional use. Somewhere there is a post that I was wondering what happened to that footage and if any of it was leaked.

Wow, if this is true thats certainly uncalled for. People get crazy when a family member dies especially in hollywood.

I happen to be on the findadeath forum and they have this HUGE post on Buddy Holly. Apparently some of the people there have attended the "reunion" shows at the Surf Ballroom to commemorate the day the music died, and many of them don't seem to be fond of Buddy widow, Maria. The story goes that she's not very "generous" when it comes to using Buddy's music/likeness. It's good reading (the forum's like this board--you get three views for free but you have to be a member to see the whole thing.)

Damn interesting. I love stuff like this. I have exhumed quite a few people myself, and the quality of the embalming, as well as the burial vault do play a very important role.

We exhumed a man that was buried in 1975 I think, in a stanard metal casket with no vault. He was completely skelatal, no soft tissue at all. His casket had rusted in two about halfway up the casket from the water any disturbed depression will hold. When we tried to raise all of it, the casket fell apart and he had cobwebs in his eye sockets.

On the other hand, we took a man up that had been buried since 1945 in a hardwood casket, and a 12 gauge burial vault. He was in almost perfect condition, as was his casket. Mild fungus growth and discoloration, but nothing serious.

I can look at pictures but i cant see dead people up close in person. Its just super weird to me. How do you get used to that? It actually scares me. I didnt go up to either one of my grandparents because i didnt want to be that close. But i go to walk around the cemetery by my house just because im curious. I was invited to a Military funeral and i avoided the room that the Marine was in. You would've had to drag me in there and that was closed casket...
