Back when they didn't use gloves. Interesting images!
That was the first thing I picked up on too!

Re: Examination Of The Skull And Brain

Been reading a lot about autopsy and what they do to the head. At my mother's funeral back in 2005, I was up at her casket by myself, so I could show more privately express some grief. I don't think anyone else saw this but I put my hand on top of her head and gave her a kiss and when I pulled my hand away a large portion of her hair came with it and I quickly balled it up and hid it on my person.

For the longest time I thought it might have been because decomp (my stepdad let her lay a while before somebody else called the squad, I wasn't there) or just her hair type(we have a lot of hair and it's wavy/curly) but now I wonder if it was from where they opened her skull. She died unexpectedly (OD) so they did a full autopsy.

Finding answers to things I haven't been able to ask is what brings me here. My mother seemed to love talking about this stuff but other family members, not so much.
My guess without seeing is that Yes... the hair was from the opening of the Skull, but more precisely, from the closing of the incision after the embalming. The longer hair tends to very easily tangle, knot, and twist into the sutures while the mortician is fixing the head. To make things even more difficult is the fact of the incision being in such a hard to reach spot. Generally a coworker can suture a full Y incision and have time left over while I do the less friendly Occipital or Ear to Ear incision. Balls of hair can and do form during this but helps to cover up the suture.... perhaps you snagged something as such. Hope that helped
