Re: US Gunman Opens Fire at Batman Screening in Denver, Colorado. While it was tragic that a dozen people got killed, it doesn't warrant the hysteria. Take for example a few facts to put this all in perspective. Yes, there I go again with facts instead of hot air out my ass. There are 126 people killed in the USA EVERY DAY from second hand cigarette smoke. There are 1,213 people killed EVERY DAY in the USA from tobacco use. (Source: http://www.cdc.gov) There are 112 people killed EVERY DAY in the USA from alcohol related accidents. There are 90 people killed EVERY DAY in the USA in automobile accidents. There are 6.6 people killed per YEAR in the USA from mass gun murder. There are 6 people killed in the UK per year from mass gun murder. (Adjusted for population to compare to USA rate.) A mass murder is 4 or more people killed in a single event. In the past 10 years there have been about 66 people killed in the USA by mass murder such as the Colorado theater event. (Not that it changes the numbers by much, but I did not include the 13 people killed at Fort Hood as that person was in the military and would have had a gun regardless of any bans.) That comes out to 0.018 people killed per day in the USA, or 6.6 people per year. In other words, it is INSIGNIFICANT. So if you really gave a shit about people, instead of talking out of your rear end to ban guns, you would put your efforts into banning cigarretts that kill 1,200 people per DAY. Those nasty things also stink up my clothes so I'm far more concerned about them than being shot but a crazy nut job. It would be far easier to ban cigaretts than guns. If you stopped the manufacture of cigarettes, as people smoked up the supply the supply would eventually dwindle to nothing and you could end up in a smoke free country and save 1,200 lives every day. On a side note for those rather vocal UK folks, your mass murder rate from guns over the past 10 years came out to 12, or 1.2 per year. Now you guys on the other side of the pond only have 1/5th our population. Once we adjust for population your gun mass murder rate is 6 per year. Kind of sucks when people use facts huh? ![]() |

Re: US Gunman Opens Fire at Batman Screening in Denver, Colorado. Come on Stevee... What is worse, 1200 deaths per day or 7 per year? Is it really that hard to figure out? Did you know the UK is the most violent country in Europe and more so than even Africa and the USA? How about you chew on those stats if you don't like mine? So, how is that gun control working out for your quality of life in the UK? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...frica-U-S.html "Guns kill people and pencils misspell words." |

Re: US Gunman Opens Fire at Batman Screening in Denver, Colorado. You're missing out on a lot of life not clicking links! :) Here is a little bit of the story. UK murder rate is far lower than US rate but I think that was mentioned later in the story - kind of long to post all of it: "Britain's violent crime record is worse than any other country in the European union, it has been revealed. Official crime figures show the UK also has a worse rate for all types of violence than the U.S. and even South Africa - widely considered one of the world's most dangerous countries. The figures comes on the day new Home Secretary Alan Johnson makes his first major speech on crime, promising to be tough on loutish behaviour..." |

However, I don't think there is much dispute that crime and violence in the UK is a growing problem. After all, criminals don't have to fear getting shot if they go rob a house or assault a victim. |

Re: US Gunman Opens Fire at Batman Screening in Denver, Colorado. Crime over here is an odd one and is more often than not happening in dodgier places. There are places (a few) that you just wouldn't go because there's a lot of violent crime (Moss side, Brixton, Croxteth, etc!) However, most places here suffer no more crime than anywhere else in the world. |
