Re: Russia Plane Crash: Dozens Killed in Rostov-on-Don

that doesn't look like a landing attempt black boxes should provide more info soon.
Don't think we're going to be getting much out if these!

Seems like one hell of an impact judging from cctv, looks pitched down, either bingo fuel or mechanical / structural failure.

Re: Russia Plane Crash: Dozens Killed in Rostov-on-Don

As we all well know, planes crash from time to time but it's a sad state we live when every single event has a real possibility of it being a terrorist bomb .
The Egyptians lied for months and months about the Russian jet that was bombed out of the sky.

Doesn't seem to be a regular landing attempt

Re: Russia Plane Crash: Dozens Killed in Rostov-on-Don

The CCTV doesn't seem
to support (in my non expert opinion) the theory that it just 'missed' the runway.
it fell out of the fuckin sky....let's be honest here. standard glide slope is 3 degrees, i think. that was more like 45 degrees.

i would assume that if it was bingo fuel, it wouldnt have exploded like that. it looked like it was full of fuel....like maybe it was just making a quick stop. i dont know for sure, obviously...im just making guesses.

Reminds me a little of Air France 447. It's descent rate was nearly 11000 fpm with a combined vertical/horizontal speed of over 150kts

Re: Russia Plane Crash: Dozens Killed in Rostov-on-Don

Last year i flew in a Russian operated plane that fell out of the sky 5 times in a row because it stalled mid-air just seconds after the engines cut out during take-off, 500m above ground.. Its FUCKING FREAKY
After the fifth time it got enough speed to continue flight and the landing was just a normal one.. But man.. I can exactly visualize how those people in this plane have felt when the aircraft suddenly dropped out of the sky...

Re: Russia Plane Crash: Dozens Killed in Rostov-on-Don

Bad.. Bad.. Bad decision.. It just killed you..

A TRAGIC final selfie by a passenger who bought a last-minute ticket for doomed FlyDubai flight FZ981 is among the few things that has survived the plane’s fiery crash.
Ukrainian beautician Anna Sergeeva had been on the flight from Dubai to Rostov-on-Don in southern Russia when it crashed on impact near the airport on Saturday, killing all 62 people on board.
The 25-year-old is believed to have booked the ticket at the last minute for an impromptu holiday to Rostov-on-Don, Gulf News reports.
She had been living in Dubai for just four months before she was killed.
Sergeeva was dropped off at Dubai airport by Ukrainian Yana Rudi, a colleague at the beauty salon where she worked, and she took a selfie shortly after boarding the ill-fated Boeing 737-800.
Rudi told Gulf News Sergeeva “booked the flight suddenly, without planning”.

The plane’s flight data recorder survived largely intact, but the cockpit voice recorder — which should shed light on the pilots’ final conversations — was badly damaged, leading officials to say initially it could take weeks to restore it.
“Memory has already been retrieved from the black boxes, it’s being worked on,” a spokesman of the Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC), which is investigating the crash, told Reuters.
“The decoding of the two black boxes may take between several weeks and several months.”
There is so far no suggestion of an attack on the aircraft.
Russian media say the two main theories under consideration by investigators are possible pilot error or a technical failure.
FlyDubai’s CEO Ghaith al-Ghaith said on Saturday it was too early to determine why the plane, which was just over five years old, crashed.
Btw, it seems it was Pilot error!
Looks like he climbed way to fast and stalled the airplane to a complete stop
With less than 6000 flight hours he wasn't the most experienced pilot..

At 03:28, the crew of Flydubai Flight 981 started the second attempt to land on runway 22. According to ATC communications published online, pilots reported to ATC that in case they would need to make another go-around, they would climb to flight level 80 – approximately 8,000 feet (2,400 m). At 03:36 the aircraft intercepted the runway 22 localizer at 10 nautical miles (19 km) from the runway. The crew confirmed it to ATC and continued the descent.

At 03:40:54, when the aircraft descended to 480 meters (1,570 ft) with a speed of 243 km/h and was about 5.5 kilometres (3.4 mi) from the runway threshold, the crew decided to abort the landing.
They reported their intention to ATC with "Going around, Sky Dubai 981".
ATC advised Flight 981 to switch to another air traffic controller ("Sky Dubai 981, contact Rostov Radar on 121.2").
Flight 981 acknowledged this with "121.2, bye-bye", which was their final transmission. The aircraft increased its speed and within 43 seconds climbed to 1,200 meters (3,900 ft) with a speed of about 343 km/h.

Starting at 03:41:37 the aircraft's altitude rapidly decreased and it hit the ground.

You can shift the playback toward the last 30 seconds or so of the speed/altitude tracking. Taking into consideration the weather conditions, they may very well have stalled and were recovering before impact.
When recovering from a stall you need forward airspeed, which you get from dropping the nose. Unfortunately, dropping the nose means sacrificing altitude. Throw in some windshear the margin for error disappears. Vertical windshear can kill you even when your flying is perfect.

That had to be a sickening experience.
