If by missed the runway they mean crashed straight into the earth then yeah I can see how it missed the runway.

This is an accident. Plain and simple. That is the debris field seen when an intact plane hits the ground at relatively high speed in a very nose down attitude. Complete obliteration. This guy was climbing out after a second landing attempt and lost control of the plane, likely due to a wind gust causing a loss of lift or stall.
